30-something career-changer looking for advice on reapplication. Currently on one WL. Applied MD 2019, submitted AMCAS early July, completed secondaries August-Sept. Got 1 interview and was waitlisted there. Looking for advice on what to do next!
  1. GPA 3.9, and sGPA 3.6
  2. MCAT 510 (126/128/126/128)
  3. State of residence CA, country of citizenship: New Zealand
  4. White
  5. Undergraduate institution overseas, including DIY post-bac science courses
  6. Clinical experience: group medical visit assistant at FQHC (5 years, volunteer), tobacco treatment specialist & health educator (4 months, paid employment), diabetes kids' camp volunteer (2 years)
  7. Research experience: 5 months education equity research assistant (paid), data analysis for ACES study at county hospital (volunteer)
  8. Shadowing experience and specialties represented: ~80 hours, half general surgery, half primary care
  9. Non-clinical volunteering: open source medicine & healthcare project (hardware and strategy), 80 hours
  10. Other extracurricular activities: have a doctorate in music, worked as a teacher. Currently work in public health tobacco treatment, policy & training
  11. Relevant honors or awards: Fulbright fellow, undergraduate and graduate tuition scholarships

What pops out at me is
- expand school list next cycle
- accumulate more shadowing hours
- consider adding DO schools to list
