Hi guys,
Another question, I've been volunteering at the local church for nearly a decade now and I would teach children Vietnamese on Sunday and create fundraisers to feed the homeless but the involvement of these activities are not an official program to the church itself and only involve older members of the church. So when I ask for a letter of recommendation it is these individuals that are willing to write me a letter since I'm not a member of the church and the priest doesn't know me well. Will this letter of recommendation be acceptable? If so, what is needed for the heading? Should the writer use the church name and address as a heading?

Any experts on this?

@Goro @gyngyn Do you guys think I should use this type of LOR or should I request it from the Priest directly?

You need to get it from someone who knows what you're doing, otherwise it's going to be like this:

To Whom It May Concern,

KEPT has been a volunteer at our church for nearly a decade now and I would teach children Vietnamese on Sunday and create fundraisers to feed the homeless. S/he is a very nice person and I recommend him to your medical school.

As you can see, there's no "there" there.

Would it hurt my application if the writer doesn't belong to any organization? The work that we do isn't managed by any official administrative personnel at the church. It's more of an activity that the church members started as a result there won't be any official headers on the LOR. It troubled me because I noticed many school required official headers from the writer.

The writer has to know you in some supervisory capacity.
