Hi, I am a nontraditional student (Registered Nurse) preparing for MCAT. I am currently taking organic chemistry 1 and retaking microbiology to refresh my knowledge. I am enrolled to take Organic chem II with Physics I in Spring 2018.
I work Sat-Sun (12/day) and i have 2yr old kid.
My issue is in regards with preparing for MCAT. I currently have Kaplan course review books at my disposal which i have not been able to look at thoroughly yet. I was debating to take the kaplan prep course that is offered in the spring (Tue-Thu 6-9pm) for total of 12 classes. But didn't know if it was worth it. I am very weak in my cars section (I can tell beforehand, not taken any mcat practice test yet). So thought maybe an in person course will help me.
But i do understand the khan academy for concept purposes. I really need help in which course shall i take (Kaplan online or in person). I know my self that i will need a schedule to follow which holds me accountable and also gives me time off to study for MCAT hence the course work.

I plan to take my MCAT on June 1 (tentative, as depends how much i make on my practice test first). And see how i do on that with the preparation that i can do now. I am in desperate need of suggestions and help on to how to prepare for this beast test.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like me last spring! I took the Kaplan live online course. Unfortunately, I took the very accelerated option (3 days per week), and I did not have time to complete the materials, voiding my warranty. I still did well, but I would really recommend getting your work done so you can retake the class if you don't do well the first time. I was also taking orgo II, orgo 2 lab, physics I, physics I lab (plus biochem) while working full time while I was attempting to finish the prep class, and it just didn't happen.

I would strongly, strongly recommend starting your Kaplan class early enough that you could do one class per week. I really did like the live online option, so I would recommend that to anyone.

Thank you for the reply. So did the online version help you with asking questions and giving you an option to discuss some of the questions you were having trouble with? I think i will need a classroom setting just because of my home dynamics. A classroom setting will actually make me study for mcat. But you are suggesting to do it early spring rather than later spring due to the heavy course load?

Which is the latest date that i have to take MCAT before submitting my application for 2018?

I suggest taking the class all semester long. I think the one day a week ones are something like two and a half or three months, so they'll run the whole semester length. I was more saying start early so you can space it out and have time to do the material. I didn't start until the beginning of April for a May 13 test date, so that didn't work out too well for me.

You have two chat rooms going at the same time - one is for the whole class to see, and one only the TAs see. It's easy to ask questions - you can ask in the group chat so everyone sees and gets an answer to your question, or you can just ask in the private chat so the TAs are the only ones that see your question.

You do need a solid three hours uninterrupted for the live online class. But you know, you don't have to do it at home. If your home environment is disruptive, you could always go to a coffee shop and do it there, versus having to go all the way to school. I liked the flexibility a lot.
