so I can't remember what I did last thanksgiving or for christmas or what I was doing on my birthday.

all I know is that I didn't go on a cool vacation or anything like that. however, my parents seem to remeber what we did on different hollidays or otherwise from last year to several years back.

Is this normal? do they just have a really good memory or do I have a poor one???

maybe I am just imagining things...

I imagine your memory is fine if you're not failing medical school. Perhaps you just don't care as much about what happened.

Your parents remember because they treasure those memories, especially now that you're probably out of the house. My guess is you're in your early 20s, single, and without kids. One day, when you get married and start your own family, you too will remember every detail about the time you spent as a family with your spouse/kids, even if it was just sitting around the house and playing Monopoly while a storm raged outside

Like you can't even remember your physical location on those days? That might be a little weird. If you can't remember the score of the Cowboys game or what kind of pie you had, no big deal.

As you go deeper into medical school, you'll realize that your mind is already prioritizing information for you, you'll care less and less about trivial matters such as this.

When you do 15+ shots it's tough to remember anything.

@medstudentwanna- you have described me well. hopefully this is not so bad then...
@gracie- LOL I don't think I have ever reached 15 😀! but yes that would do it...

thanks guys...maybe I don't have early onset Alzheimer's after all 🙂

I have the same problem. My significant other remembers all these things we did that I have either no memory of or only a vague recollection. I don't think it's really a problem with your memory, but rather what your brain chooses to remember as important. I don't pay attention to details when it comes to my personal life and can never recall that minutiae, but when it comes to useless trivia and factoids I am king. 😛 It's just how I'm wired, I guess.

My husband still remembers what I ate for every meal 12 years ago when I visited him in Vienna for the first time. I can't remember where I set a pencil 5 min ago. However, I do much better than my husband when it comes to remembering what I read or hear in lecture. I'm sure you're fine. Worry when you forget where you live. 😉

I dunno, i might be concerned that you have a prion disease or multi-infarct dementia or some weird neoplastic autoimmune process goin' on...a brain biopsy might be a good idea.

I'm leaning more toward lobectomy.

I have that problem too. I have a difficult time remembering what we've done for holidays and birthdays on specific years. I tend to blur different years. I don't know why or when this happened, but holidays/birthdays aren't important to me anymore.

I completely resonate with this. I can remember inane details from histo/biochem just fine (got Step 1 coming up soon). But I have a hard time remembering exactly what I did 3-4 days ago. If I spend a minute thinking about it, it eventually comes to me. I think it's just the brain focusing more on what needs to be remembered (Step 1 info) vs. what can be forgotten (what I did 4 days ago).
