northstate and fafsa

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
if all goes well, the school should get accredited in 2012, so iono.

desertraichu, did you resolve your financial dilemma?

Isn't the FAFSA due in March for California?

Does the federal gov. allow "should be accredited" to count for receiving aid? Or are you not starting until 2012?

yeah you have a point, I'm just trying to figure the best case scenario. I'm already preparing for the worst, online master's degree, working fulltime, fastwebs.com etc but I'd like to get a good idea how long it will take before fafsa for cncp kicks in. The financial aid dept is saying it should be in 2012, but it doesn't add up in my head. I hate dwelling in the realm of "should be", but that's what happens when you go to a new school. I plan on starting in August and I've got my loans for this year, so fingers crossed.

The lack of financial aid means the school is not "regionally accredited ". Remember that this is not related to the process accreditation via ACPE.

Be weary of any school without regional credentials - it means it has no foundation programs.

I guess my basic question is supposing wasc accreditation in 2012, should students be able to fill fafsa.

You cannot suppose accreditation status... You are gambling with the possibility of the school to secure federal student loans. More concerning, it means that no other authority has verified that the school meets any academic standards.

Aside from these issues - assuming that you school meets criteria in 2012, you would be eligible starting the semester following the ruling (inspection and subsequent vote). If the ruling is passed in June, you would be eligible for Fall of that year.

Good luck - both to you and your school.

EDIT: Here is a great article describing why having regional or national accreditation is important... LINK

Thanks for the info, I've been already preparing for 4 years without federal aid, so I hope everything goes well.

Isn't that school like 46K a year tuition alone? that's almost 200K when you get out and that's not including living expenses! 200K+ on private HIGH interest loans = get another profession. I will be 80K in debt when I get out and most of it is on sub loans and I am already regretting my decision....R you sure about your decision? Pharmacy ain't fun either...🙁

man that's bleak. i've got some tricks up my sleeve. I'm gonna do the trick with the online degree to get some federal aid. I'll be living with a relative for free so food shelter and utilities is covered, and i've got some good cosigners. She's a pharmacist and says I could work for her so there's income. I don't mind the debt afterwards. I'll be a loser living with my parents paying off debts and playing playstation 3 (which i delayed buying because of pharmacy school). I'm just exploring every possible outlet to ensure I make it through 4 years with minimal damage.

I think CNCP students are exploiting dual enrollment in CSUS and Phoenix master's degree programs for federal aid.

Why not improve application and apply to schools that have proven themselves next cycle is beyond me... but hey, whatever.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

I believe that it's not the first time he's applying, so this is what his "improved" application has gotten him into (I may be wrong but that's what the other post sounded like.

Yes, I believe that it is the 3rd app. Interesting that his family losing their home if he goes to CNCP is no longer mentioned.

Ouch project. Well to be honest, my family is pushing me to go. they found me a place to stay with a relative for free, and begged around behind my back for a good cosigner that got loan approval and they've made up their minds. After everything they've done, the least I can do is figure out how to fund my education without being a burden to them. They want me to be the first in the family to go to professional school and hope it motivates my lil bro to do the same, and the situation is complex. If I can be the first one to break my family history of poor education and poverty, the debt afterward will be fine by me. My little bro wants to go to pharmacy school since he found out I can get in. I have to take these factors into account, and I'll do what I can. If that means doing a mba thing, working full time and studying, I'm fine with it.

Also passion, I know you have an anti-northstate opinion, but if you have any good facts on university of phoenix or csus, i'd sincerely appreciate it.

It wouldn't be my choice of paths... but I admire someone pulling themselves up by their bootstraps. Make sure you set the example for your brother to emulate. Make the right decisions, and you may just see another professional in the family.

Ouch project.

Sorry, it wasn't meant to be offensive. It's just that after starting that thread and countless responses, you never really followed up and now you're saying you're all covered and didn't care about the loans. Quite the contrast, ya know?

Your strength is impressive. 👍:luck:

thanks project. I can't really say i have strength, i'm just standing on the shoulders of so many people willing to push me up, including family, people from this forum who gave me advice, and the p1 and p2 people from cncp i've talked to.
