Any one know about northwestern medical review ? How is it ? Worth taking it? I am in MII right now and was thinking of taking live review.

I am a BIG fan. I was a repeat test taker and after taking their 10-day review class, I passed. They have their own Q-bank and study materials. The Q-bank is so-so and I know that other people in my class also did Kaplan and UW for more Q's. But, their study materials are really great. I pretty much just used the books that came from Northwestern and my personal notes from during the class and stayed away from FA and Kaplan b/c that is what I used before when I didn't pass. Of course, I have no real comparison b/c I haven't taken any other review classes, but I was/am very happy and have thought about using their review classes for Step II as well...

Thanks for reply.
How's this class designed? Who teaches it? Where do you stay? Is it like kaplan video lecture? Sorry for stupid question. I have not taken any review class before.

I took Northwestern and thought it was a waste. Maybe enough to just pass. Halfway through the course I just stopped going and foccussed on Kaplan home study books. The main guy that teachnes their class was funny, sounded like borat but didnt cover anything that couldnt be read in brs books in half the time. They had an IM resident come for 2 days and do a Q+A through one of their review books and you could tell he couldnt care less and would rather not be there. Some guy came in for omm and just read his handout word for word. their q-bank stunk. all of the review books were bound printouts of their powerpoints whitch i thought were not in depth enough for the material tested on the usmle. i did well on both the usmle and comlex but i attribute that to my own studying rather than what was taught in the northwestern course.

Thanks for your input. I called them and they said Dr. John iftekhar and Dr. Tom Brown teaching their class. Do you know anything about them? Who taught you?

eftekar and brown taught our class. eftekar was a good guy and funny too. if you are worried about passing its a great class. if you are trying to do do really well it would prob be a waste.

I loved the course, definitely helped me pass step I and II! I liked the CD roms that they offered. I listed to them while I worked out. And the live lecturers were good teachers who seemed to really care about the class. I definitely still remember things I learned from those review lectures to this day. Plus compared to other test companies, for what you got the price was much more reasonable.

no it's not, stop it with the fake reviews. you just joined this forum 5 days ago.

wow, geez, yea I did just join. I had an account as pre-med and now as a resident. and I do support this company. And now I am on doctor network for information on fellowship programs and life during residency advice, settle down....it did help me. Sorry if you are biased to another group. But I will defend something that worked for me and got me where I am. No need to be so angry.

I took a 4 day live lecture course. I enjoyed it and did great on my steps. I just randomly saw a couple biased posts about NW review and thought I should comment. It's definetly unique and uses different teaching styles for students. The teacher we had was good too. I recommend it. I can't comment on other board prep companies, but I did love the one I used, and I know many others who did as well.
