Just checked my Northwestern Status and here is what it says:

"Thank you for your application to the Feinberg School of Medicine. There has been a final decision on your application. A letter has recently been mailed to you that you should receive no later than February 20, 2006. Please email us at [email protected] if you do not receive your letter by this date."

Oh well 🙁

Wow that sucks. I'd rather have them just tell me right away that I'm rejected instead of making me wait for a letter. Sorry man. 🙁

i could be hallucinating, but i swear when i checked my status page it said that too, and then since i haven't seen a letter i rechecked the status page because i wanted to know when the letter would be coming and now its been changed to complete and still under review. did my eyes deceive me the first time? i was a bit upset the first time because i felt that the second my file was complete they rejected me and they didn't even look at my file (hence a complete numbers thing). has this happened to anyone else?

This hasn't happened to me, but my status page has not changed from "under review" for seven weeks. At this point, I don't care what the result is, I just want to know something. Or they should be upfront about not letting people know anything until March (like UPenn)

what do you mean "at this point"? its september.

I mean, most schools that are rolling have two clear policies

1. Review your application and you will receive notification of interview(or not) within a specified period of time (Upenn, UCSF, Vanderbilt, Wake)

or

2. You will be in consideration throughout the entire interview season (JHU, Upenn, Harvard, etc)

I just don't know which policy Northwestern has. Maybe someone can clarify. The sad thing is, I really don't have much interest in them at this point because I've been really fortunate to have interviews at my first choices. But I just want to know something to feel like my $90 was worth it.

Well, did you get the letter?

Sound's like a rejection to me (unless of course, you've interviewed with them already).

That's crappy that they're not direct about it.

Dude, seriously, I was complete on August 14 and have not heard a peep from them.

Maybe they have so many strong applicants that they put those slightly less strong off to the side and if they have interview slots available later in the season those slots will go to the slightly lower ranked applicants? They interview through the end of January or into February rather than reject a fairly good applicant they may put him aside for consideration later in the season. NU is not rolling (just 2 decision dates) so being set aside for a later interview is still "under consideration".

Is it possible that Northwestern doesn't invite students that they feel will go to another school anyway? This would be a way to check on those students later and invite them. If they decline the interview at that point, that means that they probably weren't going to attend anyway. It could save them some of the hassle.

Do you realize you put UPenn in both policies?

I believe Northwestern does the latter. That's why they don't tell you anything outright until February.

This happened to me too...not sure what's going on. Hopefully they changed their minds and don't want to reject us anymore!!!

I am back under review also.

I think the message the OP referred to was a default from the last application cycle that they forgot to take care of until now.

How long can they possibly have someone under review?

How long have you guys been "under review"?

I've been "Complete and Still Under Review" for over two months now.

Thanks LizzyM this makes me feel a WHOLE let better. My question though is why are so many people who submitted applications later but are better applicants get their interviews so much quicker then those that are more mediocre if this backlog is for real?

My Northwestern status page said what the OP's did, which would clearly mean a rejection. Then it was switched back to stating that I'm complete and under review. I emailed and asked about it and I was told that it was simply a glitch. My application should have been complete there in mid-August, my status page reflected this on 8/25, and I'm still wating...
😳

quick question, does anyone know the date for the first round of decisions at NW?

NU gets about 4,000 complete applications per year (maybe more). I'm on the adcom at a school with that number of applications and right now I'm reading supplementals that were submitted in August! There is a huge backlog at many of these schools (I answered a similar question about Cornell awhile back).

Of course, some schools will leave you "under review" until you are rejected pre-interview sometime late in the winter or early spring.🙁 Hang on & hope for the best.

it's all really random i think. I turned in my app 9/21ish and got an interview invite 10/16. much quicker than i anticipated, especially given the backlog

hey just to let you know, when I interviewed at NW, they told me that you get this message for both accepted and rejected (basically you just know that the decision was made)
But did you interview or not?

Dude!! Call them!!! or go over there personally (if u live in chicago). I would hate to wait that long 😡

At most schools there are a number of application readers. Some push applications through quickly, other sit on them for weeks. So, by luck of the draw you might get someone who reads quickly, or you may not.

Of course, you also keep in mind that only a small proportion of applicants get interviewed and the sound of silence may ultimately be a "no interview".

Well least it was a rejection, and then not a rejection. Nice counter to Rush's "hey you're invited!" followed by "siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiike."

NW sat on my application for a loooong time. I got an invite today via email- so that's how notification will come. They are currently setting interviews for early to mid-December.

I couldn't take those (first baby coming mid-December) so I bumped mine til January- I left December for you all!!

I hope you hear good news soon. NW seems like a good school.

LizzieM- it is great to have you on the boards.
