Can some one give me the breakdown about the program. How competitive is it, how well do they do in fellowship match. No trolls please (see screen name), any information will be greatly appreciated.

I interviewed there as a medical student (I'm a 2nd year resident now) and was very impressed with the program, PD, and the hospital. I remember them having a pretty good match list but (if I remember correctly), a lot of people stayed in the midwest. It seems like they are highly respected regionally . The PD was my 2nd favorite on the trail. She was very charismatic. The hospital is RIDICULOUSLY GORGEOUS and hi-tech. It's in the middle of downtown and the residents were happy.

I hope you get some answers from someone who has been there more recently, but I remember having a real good feeling about the place and am applying there for GI fellowship.

Sir you make no sense, I am not going to argue with you on a public forum, if you have a reply send it to my inbox. You remind of this urology resident I had at UCSD, he nearly cussed me out on the phone when I asked for a consult, but it so happened I was sitting in the patient room when he arrived. He didnt expect that the MSIII he cursed out was a former Stanford O-lineman. He damn near taught me everything about urology at the bedside. So behind a computer screen, and behind a phone is great to be big and tough and sarcastic ass hell, but when two individuals have to communicate face to face its a different interaction. So my friend I will offer you the professional courtesy of responding to me in my inbox.

So now you're not only an internet tough guy, but a "real life" one as well!!1! Sweet. I've always wanted to have a discussion with a real life tough guy too. You're not only a verbal assassin but a real life assassin too!

Hey man, you started this with your comment. All I wanted to know was if we should be scared. It seems based on your response we should all be afraid, very, very afraid. I bet you know kung-fu too, making you like ridiculous crazy scary.

This reminds me of this one time I ordered a pizza from Domino's and the delivery guy one the phone was giving me some lip because I was ordering all kinds of toppings on only half of the pizza and changing my mind over and over, confusing him. So this guy cusses me out on the phone like he's some tough guy. Well when he finally showed up to deliver the pizza, he wasn't prepared to deliver a pizza to a bunch of guys watching a WWE pay per view (SummerSlam 2007!!1! --classic) and doing bench presses with our shirts off. So I go to the door with my shirt off and a little sweat dripping from my brow and paid him with all ones. Didn't even give the guy a tip. I could tell he peed in his pants a little, too. He's just lucky I didn't suplex him through the windshield of his Ford Escort. So I definitely know about guys acting tough on the phone/internet.

Dude, stop being a tool.

I liked NW a lot. The residents seemed nice, happy, competent. No tooly at all.

I also had a great experience at Northwestern. Fun and happy residents who were very knowledgeable at morning report (participated more than most other programs I visited). The facilities are great as is the location. The match list seemed pretty good to me - not as good as some of the other midwest programs (Michigan) but that may because people choose to stay in Chicago. The PD seems awesome although I hear she is leaving/being promoted soon and won't be the PD when our class is applying for fellowship. Can any NU residents comment on this?

I would be curious to hear what people think of the University of Chicago? Everyone knows of the many troubles they are having (400+ layoffs, closing several clinics, lost quite a few faculty (esp in Cardiology), Chairmen stepped down and may soon leave the university (Garcia is one of two candidates being considered at Duke), finances in the red, decreased size of IM program, etc). Historically, they enjoy the stronger reputation in Chicago and have matched better into fellowships. Arguably, they used to be a top 15 program - is this still the case? I'm not sure what the current situation will do to this. Can anyone provide any insight? Do they discuss all of the changes during the interview day? How are Northwestern and University of Chicago perceived by the rest of the country (what is their national reputation)?

Not your best one, but still good 😉. I think it will be hard to top your contribution to the Columbia thread

To the OP - I have heard that Northwestern is possibly the most cushy reputed program in this country. I havent visited it, but something that has recurrently come up on SDN. You may want to look into that and see if that is something which will be okay with you, whenever you have some time off from writing unnecessary sentences that ensure that less than half the posts in reply to your thread actually answer the question you were asking.

Arguably in the top 15? I don't know about that anymore, but easily still in the top 30

NWern and UofChicago are perceived very well as far as I can tell. Both are known as top tier programs, even if people want to debate specific ranking within that top tier.

I never interviewed in Chicago though - nice place to visit, but I didn't want to live there 😀 (the training, however, seems top notch)

Good to know 👍

How do the private physicians make an impact at NW?

I got a like on here. It's one of my old personal favorites. I'm more laid back these days but funny anyway!

Bump!
Dude...c'mon. If anybody else bumped this you'd be all up in their grill.

-20 points for Hufflepuff.

You know you're a Hufflelpuff.

Don't worry man, I got ya. Apparently this troglodyte doesn't understand that responding to you in your inbox is akin to your urology resident coming face to face with a football player. Killer burn! If he knew what were good for him, he would damn near teach you everything about NW internal medicine in your inbox. #goodatanalogies

Edit:

Aw man this is a necrobump #badatreading
