Hello all,
I took my DAT in September and got a 17AA. I studied 3.5 months for my DAT. I took the KAPLAN course to get my foot wet. It sucked lol but anyways, after that I started studying 10-12 hours a day. Then I moved to chad's and did gen chem and orgo with him. I read feralis inside out and I did like 60% of Anki flashcards. Once, I learned the content, I moved to destroyer to learn it in every possible way. I did destroyer 3 times and orgs destroyer 4 times. Then I went to bootcamp to test my knowledge and I was scoring all above 20. My bootcamp average of all score was, Bio: 25/Gen Chem: 23/Orgo: 21/QR; I don't remember my average cause I took all 10 and it varied/PAT 17. I did genius as well and I was scoring well in genius as well. I took all 10 qvault bio tests and I was scoring fairly well. I took 09 dat and got 23 bio, 21 gen chem and 19 orgo. I did math destroyer test 1-7 3 times and bootcamp test 1-10 twice. I thought I had a good understanding by the end. I ended my studying by going through all the flashcards I made from bootcamp because I learned through the solutions and I used that as a tool to identify my strong and weak areas. I had above 500 flashcards by the end and I had them all memorized. everyone told me I was prepared. My biggest mistake was, I studied until the very last minute. I was reviewing stuff even when I walked through the doors of the that center. During the exam, I was so burnt out, my test anxieties took over and I LOST MY CALM. like after bio, I knew I screwed up big time. I just couldn't physically do it at all. like while taking that test, I was so sleepy and tired that I was thinking if I died here at this table right now, at least I'll be sleeping for rest of my life. so yeah, I was really devastated cause you know thats all my handwork that went to waste. However, I am planning on retaking my DAT soon because I can't spend another summer on this. I am only planning on investing 6 weeks this time though because I am planning on studying winter break and then first couple weeks of spring semester. What should I do different this time? interns of material and content and just like overall structuring my DAT journey.

can you post your entire score please? if you feel comfortable doing that. i didnt do great on bio. if i were to retake i would re read all of cliffs to get a SOLID foundation and do bio destroyer as many times as possible.

i think a big mistake was studying until the very last day. i took it easy as i got closer to my exam. anything you try to cram in your head near the exam is just going to confuse you and you probably wont retain info that way. my last two week were only really my practice exams, pat exams, and bootcamp qr exams. i toned it down. anything i tried to cram in my head at that point wasn't going to help me.

you and I had the same bio score. my bio score shocked me bc I love bio so much. I am a bio major and I actually enjoy studying for bio and like knowing little details. I hated cliff cause it was so baby and it was so boring lol but I'd read if I have to lol. I don't wanna post my entire score report just because my QR score was literally terrifying. I had 13 questions left in QR and my time went up lol.

Hey 🙂

As far as resources go, I think you were doing all the right things. Given the amount you have already studied, I feel that a 6 week brush up (SHOULD) be sufficient.

It seems like nerves/test anxiety influenced your score. When you did the bootcamp test (awesome scores by the way), were you replicating exam conditions? Although full lengths can be tiring (and some people advise against doing them due to burnout) I feel that they are useful for teaching you how to deal with the timing/conditions. If you end up retaking, I highly recommend doing full length exams (if you didn't do them on your first run through)

I know you mentioned that you don't want to list the QR score, but I do think it would help if you posted the scores just so we know where you are at. If your QR score was truly terrifying I have a feeling that of the 27 questions you did answer, some of those may have been wrong. So definitely work on concepts/accuracy along with timing. I know you don't remember the average, but what was your best bootcamp QR score?

All in all, keep your head up. At the end of the day, this exam just spits out numbers out of a computer and in no way defines your all around academic ability.

my best QR was 20. second time doing math destroyer I was getting 33/40 and I like I took calc 2 in college and I never hated math or sucked at it but I wasn't a big fan of stupid modified 9th grade word problem that threw me off. Actually, I only took one FL. rest I took subject individuals. which now that I think back was a bad idea cause I didn't have enough stamina.

For qr, missing 13 questions means you likely spent too much time on some questions where you have just guessed and moved on. for qr i used dat bootcamps 10 qr exams to build up my speed and endurance. QR is all about timing. if you cant get a question, guess and move on. no point in spending time on a question you will prob get wrong. there are always easy questions at the end of the qr section, make sure you can run the 40 qr questions at least once

P.S, my orgo was so freakin hard lol. I felt like it was foreign language. I mean orgo was always my weakest subject but I really thought my orgo section was unfair.

I really worked on my timing because I wasn't allowed calculator in my math classes throughout in college so I never relied on one and didn't waste time on it cause I wasn't used to calculator. I just wasn't in a right mindset. whoops lol

How did you do in Calc 2 and High school math?

sounds like you have a solid foundation, just need to work on stamina/pace 🙂

in my opinion, the real deal was nothing like the bootcamp though. idk, if I was just drunk during that exam but I don't think bootcamp QR was a good representation of real deal. Even in my Kaplan class for QR, I breezed through bc it was pretty easy. but bootcamp like crushed me cause I started bootcamp QR with low score. idk I just hated bootcamp QR

Yeah man fair enough. For me, I personally felt that my real QR was tougher (or maybe just "different") than bootcamp. I felt like i was bombing it during the real exam. Sounds like you got a rough version of the test overall

lets just say it was one of the roughest evening of my life.

Sometimes life happens. Trudge through, I'm here to support you as I retook my DAT as well 🙂. I can't relate with math though DAT math has always been so easy to me no matter where I did problems.
