Im currently doing my 5th year (I guess an unofficial post bacc)... my stats are low about 3.2 gpa but my last 4 semesters have been 4.0s (and I anticipate this year will be too). I am retaking my dat 19aa first time. I can go on and do a course based masters next year (1 year) which would improve my gpa. I could also continue my post bacc into a 2nd degree which I would finish next year also.

What do you think is the best route? Both ways will increase my gpa (hopefully), but one results in a masters and one in another degree. I think if my gpa was a little higher, masters would be the way to go, but I am torn!

With your last 4 semesters being 4.0s, that is really going to work in your favor. I personally had a very low first 2 years in my undergrad...and when I mean low, I mean LOW. From my personal experience, I strongly believe that if you get a 22+ on the DAT you should have no issues getting a few interviews. In terms of deciding on another degree, you have to realize that you will have so many credits completed that your GPA will barely budge...just my 2cents.

If I was in your shoes, I would be studying my ass off for the DAT and aiming for a 22+.

PS I am also a fellow Canadian 🙂

Retake the DAT and score in the 20's. I had lower stats than you, but did well on the DAT to offset it. Also make sure you are shadowing or working in the dental field.

I had admissions people tell me that how you do on the DAT compared to your GPA tells them a lot about the school you went to and what your GPA really means. For example, if you have a low GPA but a high DAT, that means that your school is a tough grading school. That you hae to work hard for the A's, they're not just given out like candy. But if the opposite is true, you have high GPA and low DAT, your school is a more lenient grading school. So...FWIW...there's that...

Just keep it up man. Retake the DAT and get your app in early.

Don't lose all hope on this cycle. I have a 19 AA and a 3.4 overall gpa 3.1 science and got accepted 2 days ago. There is still hope.
That's fantastic! Congrats! May I ask what else you did to really stand out? Like community service hours, shadowing hours, age, etc. I haven't taken my DAT yet and my GPA is really low (3.0s and 3.3 overall) so I'm looking for guidance on what I can do to make myself a more appealing applicant. Thanks in advance!

EC's: 5 years of full-scholarship D1 varsity football, team captain and 3x all-conference, 1 year of D1 varsity basketball, 6x academic all-conference, member of the pre-dental club and other small clubs or organizations on campus. My volunteer hours were very high since I did a lot of community service and involvement through athletics. I think those were the specific things that helped with standing out in the applicant pool. Hope this helps and good luck with everything!

Dont waste time and money taking more classes. Just retake DAT and aim for 22+. I just recently got into UF with 22 DAT and 3.1 overall GPA. Had low GPA first two years and then was on upward trend the rest of undergrad so upward trend should definitelyplay in your favor.
