Hi guys, this is my first time posting on here. I recently decided to pursue pre med. Here is the deal. At the college im currently attending , im making really good grades, and can finish my bachelors with a high gpa. But im not sure how medical school applications are , or what they ask in terms of transcripts. But i took a few courses from a different college when i was younger, and botched a few courses, with some bad grades. For one class i took 3 times and made a W,F,A. Then in another course i made an D lecture, C lab. And a W in another course. I have retaken the two courses that i didint get A's in , and received A's at my new college.

Do i need to transfer those few credits to my current college? Can i just ignore them, and pretend they never happened? Or will the medical schools im applying for want me to have both transcripts showing? I dont want to hurt my GPA, but at the same time i dont want to be looked at by them as trying to hide the bad grades from the other college, if they somehow would discover them?

You need to provide med schools with info concerning every college course you've ever taken, and you will also need to provide transcripts from every institution at which you've taken courses. Hide information at the risk of never becoming a physician.

If you apply to DO medical schools through AACOMAS, they will only count the most recent grade earned for each class, so long as the credit hours are the same or greater. Retakes need not be at the same school, or have an identical course title, so long as the course content is the same.

The application service for MD schools will average together all grades earned. The Ws have no impact on your GPA. The most recent coursework is generally considered most representative of your academic ability, so your steep upward grade trend will help you.

Just of out curiosity, if one were to not report their transcript from a school, how would an adcom know?

Note: I don't condone this in any way.

How exactly would they know? Not positive, though I am sure there are ways they can do searches on this. What is more important is, if an applicant hides that they didn't report all their grades, they are not in the clear as soon as they matriculate. Students can be expelled for lying on their application all the way up to graduation from medical school. It would really suck to be a 4th year, a quarter of a million dollars in debt, just learning where you matched, and the school tells you that you are expelled and have no recourse, since you lied.

No matter how slim the chances of that happening, it just isn't worth the risk, not considering a couple F's at the very beginning of an otherwise excellent college career will not break your application on their own.

You don't have to report your transcript to your new school AFAIK but you will definitely have to report all college transcripts when you apply to medical school.

This. You have to report the transcript to AACOMAS or AMCAS but not to your university.

I think if one received any kind of loans for the first college, a very quick search through a clearing house will turn up every institution that accepted money on your behalf. The information may also be found in a background. I know when I get a background check for the DOT for hazardous materials, they know which schools I have attended. So I think, ultimately, it is very easy for them to find out. But as theseeker said, I have heard of people being expelled their 4th year for this kind of thing. $200k in debt without a medical degree? Definitely not worth the risk, even if it wasn't easy to find out.

Initially, it is the application service that searches out your old educational history through their access to databases like this one:
http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/ using name, SS#, birthdate, etc.

If all transcripts have not been submitted, you will not be verified, and schools will not receive your Primary. They will inform you of this lack so you will send the missing materials, and I'm sure there might be some that genuinely "forgot", but there will then be a significant delay in the verification process that can adversely affect your application timing. At this stage of screening, there is no other negative repercussion, other than the delay.
