Silly question, but if you apply early without an MCAT score say early June, and receive MCAT scores say early July, which are auto-sent to AAMCAS then, will you only be complete for primaries then?

Thank you!@

Yes, but it also takes some time for your application to be processed. So apply early if you can. Having your application processed means that you don't have to wait any longer after you get your MCAT scores.

Agreed.

Follow up question to the original post.

I am planning on taking the MCATS on May 22nd. Say I submit my AAMCAS in early June, will I be able to change which schools I designate my application to be sent to once my MCATs are released to the AAMCAS? My concern is that I am projecting a certain MCAT score and basing my school selection on that MCAT score, and if I score higher or lower than my project score I would like the opportunity to change the schools I am applying to or to nix my application all together for this year before my application is sent out. Any advice?

Yes. You can modify your school list whenever you want. You can even designate different letters of recommendation to different schools. The thing is, every school you add cost $30. So if you think you might be modifying the school list quite drastically, you can always submit it with a minimal list, or no schools at all, and then add them after you get your MCAT score. After it has been processed, the school should be notified as soon as you add them, so there won't be an additional delay. Just make sure to resubmit the application after you add any schools (it won;t have to be re-processed).

Thanks. Duly noted.

Further questioning. Does the $31 per school fee also apply to original submission of the application? For instance, say I select 10 additional schools (more than the designated one) to apply to when I first submit my AAMCAS application; will the additional school application portion of the AAMCAS application fee be $310?

According to the AAMCAS website,
1. AMCAS charges an application processing fee of $160 for one (1) medical school designation, and $31 for each designation thereafter.
Do you know what exactly they mean by (1) medical school designation? Is this equivalent to one medical school or can a designation contain more than one medical school>

If this is the case, then it would seem to make sense in my case to submit the AAMCAS application for the one school I know I am going to apply to and then add schools based upon my MCAT performance. Reasonable plan?

quick pet peeve - it's AMCAS, not AAMCAS 🙂

I'd suggest adding one school to get your application verified, then adding the others once your score comes in. Your score should still come in prior to most schools even beginning to look at primaries, so it will be in with plenty of time, but if you wait to submit it until then, you may be stuck waiting a few weeks for verification
