Hello,

I live in Canada, did cDAT, and not really confident of my numbers.

I got RC 19, Bio 25, Chem 20, and PAT 23, science total 22 and AA of 21.

My GPA so far is, 1st year = 3.71,
2nd year = 3.57
3rd year = 3.37,
and 4th year half semester = 4.

My 3rd year GPA is low because I got one D+ during summer due to my health condition, and will be retaking

it this summer again.

My first choice is NYU dental school, but I am not really confident about my GPA and DAT score.

What are my chances of getting into NYU dental school if I apply for this year's cycle?

Thank you very much in advance.

My cDAT AA was 21, gpa ~3.67 and got in to NYU. You'd also need EC's, shadowing hours, and 3 letters of recommendation (not just for NYU, but for all american schools in general). If you have those as well you should get in fine.

yeah but unfortunately i do not have any EC. would this be a huge problem??

work experience counts, but I think american adcoms also like to see shadowing hours at a dental office, which if you don't have, may hurt your application. Your gpa is competitive enough for canadian schools, any reason you want to go american?

I am simply fascinated into the biomaterial discipline that NYU offers.
Also, I like to study at a place where I can meet a lot of people 🙂

You're going to need something besides work experience for an EC.

Well I guess this is very unfortunate 🙁
I wasn't able to participate in any Academic EC due to personal issues. Barely went to the classes haha

Take a look at the acceptance/interview threads for the schools you would like to apply, and look at the ECs and shadowing experience that the successful applicants shared. Hopefully you can rack up the volunteering and shadowing hours this summer before you send your application this cycle

I see that I still can do something about it.
Thank you very much for the suggestion.

I'd suggest you go to a canadian school then, since you'd save a lot in tuition money, and won't have to pay in USD which with the current exchange rate... you can do the math. Canadian schools won't care that you have no ECs or shadowing experience, they only care for your GPA and DAT which are decent and competitive. American schools are way more different in that it would hurt you if you don't have ECs to back up your GPA.

Sorry to hijack OP's thread, but I just have a quick question, can Americans go to Canadian Dental schools without major issues? If so, could you come back and practice in the US?

I ask because I've always loved Canada and would love to spend 4 years there attending Dental school, and open up the possibility of moving there permanently.
No

From what I heard, americans can come to canada. However, if you want to practice in US, you need to write a test to get your american dental license.

Your DAT scores are nothing to worry about.
