short and sweet question here. the school where i did my postbacc only offers organic lab for ochem 2, not 1. that puts me at 7 credits for ochem and i know a lot of schools want 8. am i screwed if i don't take an ochem 1 lab elsewhere?

Hardly! 🙂

Many schools that offer orgo lab as a separate course list it as 2 credits. Are you sure you only have 1, or was it combined with the lecture for 4 credits?

Either way, this is very school specific. Most schools don't say "8 credits." They say "1 year with lab," which we interpret as 8 credits! In addition, MANY schools allow you to substitute biochem for a semester of orgo, and, if you haven't already taken it, you should, because it is very helpful for the MCAT.

No matter what, you should neither be screwed nor have to go find a 1 credit orgo lab somewhere in order to successfully apply to med school. Good luck!!

nope, orgo 1 was definitely just a lecture-only 3-credit class. only lab offered is for orgo 2, and it's 1 credit. my school is weird. i'll take a closer look at the wording for the prereqs at the schools i'm interested and make sure i'm good to go. thx!
