Not filling out FAFSA?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What reasons would someone have for not doing FAFSA if they're from the US?

Not wanting any federal loans.

Would medical schools look to see who had sent the FAFSA information to the school before accepting you to gauge interest? Or are the admissions and financial aid processes completely separate before decisions are made?

Completely separate.

That person would not be interested in federal loans, likely because they have access to other sources of money like savings, parents, an agreeable loan through a bank or the school, and/or a scholarship.

Many school-based scholarships require a first year medical student to fill out a school-specific financial aid form and a FAFSA though, so it is almost unheard of for first year med students to not fill out the FAFSA. Who turns down the chance at free money??? Second through fourth year, yeah I know some students who don't do FAFSA anymore because they don't need the federal money and their scholarships were guaranteed for all four years.
