I figure I'd start this thread for those in the same position as me, where I am NOT getting many interviews. It's the end of Oct and I've only gotten 2. I'm starting to become really discouraged, and am wondering if I'm even going to match. Many of the programs Ive applied to have already given them out, i just havent heard anything. I would consider myself a pretty good applicant. Maybe it's just more competitive this year or maybe I just need to be more patient? I need some honest advice or suggestions as to what to do.

Anybody else in a similar situation?

at least you have 2. ive only heard from 1.

i know a lot of people who are still waiting. be patient. i think...

try not to get too discouraged....remember it takes only 1 interview to match if you rank high enough on their list!!!

it does look to be a rather tough year for Ophthalmology this year as I hear numerous schools have 7+ people applying...but keep in mind, a lot of people take every interview invite given the first time around...once dates conflict however, a number of interviews will open up

try not to stress too much at this point in time...it certainly is a little scary (for everyone)...but hopefully the interview lists will start moving around

good luck to you both!!!

Don't be passive, be proactive. Start calling/e-mailing programs and see what they have to say. Good luck!

I agree...if you're willing to travel last minute, some programs may offer you an interview to fill a late cancellation.

Of course i've called/emailed programs. I've gotten a few rejections out of it and a few "applications are still being reviewed".

Thanks to everyone for your support. It seems like I'm not the only one here. I guess I'll wait another week before counting myself out yet.

Hang in there iewr. It's a really random process and interviews can still come in - in December!

There are a few programs I really interested in and still haven't heard back from - I intend on contacting early this coming week. Good luck!!!! I'm sure you will do fine!

hey iewr,

i really do think many programs are sending these interview calls in batches. some programs that started inviting early this month seem to be sending out more invites all of a sudden. it's all abt which programs u've applied to at the end of the day - the 'efficient early inviting' sorts vs. the "we'll take till the end of nov to just get done reading through our pile" inefficient sorts. u'd think they haven't done this for years and years and would know how to be more efficient or at least get more ppl to help read apps. i still haven't heard from 30+ places.

But keep us in touch with ur progress iewr - you've got us rooting for u now! Good luck!

mye eye is right - it only takes 1 to match.
i personally know one person last year that had 4 interviews and matched at his 3rd choice - and he wasn't a stellar candidate. i've read from some other posts on this site that a few people had 8-9 interviews last year and didn't match. so it's like life - the only thing certain is uncertainty. hang in there...
