Has anyone matriculated who is not immune to the measles? I know many schools require proof of immunization and titers, but I’m curious as to what they will do if you are not immune (even after multiple vaccination attempts).

Oops..read the post too fast and misunderstood!

I wouldn't risk it. Young children are getting measles again because of anti-vaccination parents and you could catch it!

Get vaccinated for everyone's safety! Yours included.

Oh, I’m not opposed to vaccination, I’m actually quite the opposite. I’ve had the MMR vaccine multiple times, but my body simply does not build immunity towards measles specifically so my titers are repeatedly negative.

I'm a mumps nonresponder. I just had to prove negative titers despite vaccine records. It won't prevent your matriculation.

I hate it. I diagnosed mumps after I'd already gotten up close and personal with the person. Thankfully I didn't end up like this. In the future be extra careful with potential measles patients.

I'm sorry about that, friend! That makes much more sense.

They usually just require that you get another booster and then titers. I don’t convert on mumps and my school just gave me another shot and took some blood so they could document that they tried. Some schools don’t even do that as long as you can prove you’ve had the shot and have negative titers.

thank you for your responses! Im sure my school will do something similar in terms of administering the vaccine another time just to prove that I am in fact a non converter. Fingers crossed that I do not ever get infected!

If people ****ing vaccinated their kids, you wouldn't have to worry about it.

I'm in the same boat. I have had six MMR shots, and I still have negative titers for rubeola. I'm not a medical student, but I do work in an academic medical center that requires titers for all required immunizations. The hospital didn't have a problem with it even though I would be close in proximity to patients. I can't imagine its medical school or others would be any different.

On a related note - people from Europe (of certain age) have been vaccinated for TB. Now we test positive for TB and it's a big deal because "You've been exposed to TB!" Well...duh...I'm immune!

You just have to ask for quantiferon gold then. It doesn’t register the same false positive from the BCG that the PPD year does.
