Hello there,
I'm new to the SDN- I was viewing and just got around to setting up an account! I recently submitted my application (8/6/2009) and it has not been mailed yet. Has anyone's application been mailed and if it has what was the turnaround time on that? Btw my Gpa has been calculated and 2/4 lors are there.

What does it take for optomCAS to mail out the application?

Obviously not for all transcripts to be mailed and not after GPA calculations, according to the post above.

Are they waiting for letters of recommendation?

I emailed to ask them a question about my application and when it would be sent to schools. In their email they said that it took 5 weeks to process an application and that their first mailing would be at the end of this month (August). Not entirely certain what that means, but I'm guessing they are holding all of the apps they have received so far and sending them in bulk at the end of this month.

I'm in the exact same place, submitted aug 6, 1 letter not completed, GPA calculated. I read something similar about them waiting until sometime in Aug to mail them and after that initial mailing things would be mailed weekly. So basically no one has gotten an app to any schools yet.

Hello all,
I submitted my OptomCas application on Sunday, August 9th. By August 9th OptomCas had all 4 of my recommendation letters. My last transcript reached OptomCas August 11th, and my GPA was calculated that same day.
This is why I am so confused: Under my status section for school designations on my OptomCas application it says "not mailed" for every school I have applied to.
However, I got an email from SCO yesterday saying that they had received my OptomCas application and would like me to fill out the supplemental application. WHAT THE HELL OPTOMCAS?
Don't trust the statuses...

I don't get it either. I submitted my application on July 27, they received my transcripts by August 11th too, but my GPA calculations are still not done, it's making me worried that there's a problem with the grades I've entered..

I'm guessing that the schools can look at our applications online but they aren't "processing" the applications until the paper versions are received at the end of the month. That kinda defeats the purpose of applying early (it seems)... Not that I'm complaining because two of my LORs & OAT will be done by the beginning of September anyhow.

Just an update- Ohio State sent me an email saying they received my OptomCAS application and would like me to fill out the online supplementary but OptomCAS still says my file has not been mailed out. Weird....

You should contact optomcas and ask them what's up? and then let us know what they say about the "not mailed" status bull**** and hopefully you don't get one of their crappy automated email responses.

It still says "not mailed" on my OptomCAS, but I received an invitation to interview at SCO yesterday. Forget OptomCAS, just email the schools you applied to.

I've had a problem with getting email responses too. You can try calling because for whatever reason, they picked up almost immediately when I called.

I just got a reply from one of the schools I'm applying to, I was told that the first batch of applications will be mailed to them on September 9th 🙁

I re-submitted mine on the 11th.. What happened to the advantages of applying early??

I'm not applying to NOVA, but to NECO, ICO and PCO. I read that ICO will send me the supp app. once they've received my Optomcas application, whereas PCO and NECO don't have supp. app. beyond what you see on Optomcas. In other words, I have a lot of empty-handed waiting to do

I am applying to ICO, Indiana, MCO, NECO, UMSL, and OSU. I received my supplemental from OSU but am waiting to see if ICO sends me one- I think ICO waits for the applications from OptomCAS to send out supplementals though. Anyone know otherwise? The other supplementals I have done online along with the optomcas app. This waiting game is no fun and I think the advantages of an early application aren't so relevant right now...

Careful on the Nova essays. I spent a while writing pretty lengthy ones (per their requirement) but then the form you need to paste it into only allows 1000 *characters*, not words.

Yes, a NECO representative replied to my email, saying that the first batch of Optomcas applications will be mailed on the 9th of September. To confirm suppl.appl. for ICO, I pulled this directly from the website:

"Submit the ICO Supplemental Application (only those deemed competitive by the Admissions Committee will be invited to submit the supplemental application)."

Yeah, it did for mine...I'll just email 'em and see whats up. I don't remember the exact amount of characters, but it was definately shorter than 500 words.

Yes, me too but it still says Not Mailed on Optomcas. And apparently, I won't get any news from ICO until all my reference letters have been received and forwarded by Optomcas. I'm rather concerned since my recommenders are really taking their time before the deadline. Should I indirectly rush them? 😕

Yes, I have already taken the OAT and the scores are on my Optomcas application. I'm not sure about your second question since I already have my OAT scores, but they did not ask for the OAT scores again in the supplemental application. It does say on there that they will have news for me 4-6 weeks after they receive all application material and LORs..

Thanks for the reply- I had the same question. I haven't taken my OAT yet (Sept 21st) so I am curious if I will not receive a supplemental from ICO unless they have the OAT score. I'll keep you guys posted.

I am willing to bet it depends on your stats- ie in theory ICO could send a supplemental without OAT scores but it's not as likely. So if you haven't taken the OAT (like me) then we may be waiting a little bit. If I haven't received a supplemental from ICO by the time I take the OAT I will probably email or fax them the unofficial scores in hopes that it will speed up the process.

Updated: It's actually 3.22, it was corrected by an admissions officer.

My pre-med office supposedly mailed them last Wednesday but I do not see anything on OptomCAS yet. I had to re-designate my advisor as a paper letter because OptomCAS would not let her upload the letters electronically. I have had them ready since July but somehow they are still not there yet!

My advisor has submitted hers electronically, no problem, it updated on Optomcas almost immediately. 😕 I wonder what was the obstacle in your advisor's case. As for the letter references, my optometrist has sent the reference letters last week, so we'll see how long that] takes.

OptomCAS processed my letters immediately. They were done online so my recommenders sent me an email as soon as they completed them and Optomcas had already marked them as "complete".

I think it took approx 3 weeks to verify - I tried to check on Optomcas but the date they verified wasn't noted. So if I remember correctly a lil less than a month.

Finally, my application is mailed today to all designated colleges.

Applied: 7/20/09
Verified: 8/10/09
Mailed: 9/10/09

So, that took 8 weeks. What is the point of applying early?
