i received 0 interviews this year. applied to 31 schools to. i see kids with lower stats than me too gettin interviewed. my apps got to school end of august. i have a relatively low gpa, 3.03 overall, 3.13 science but the last 3 semesters i did post bacc and have a 3.7. my dat was 20 AA, 21 TS, 19 PAT. i am so confused how I didn't even get one interview. does anyone have any idea how? my ecs were good too, did alot of shadowing.

When did you apply and where are you from

I'm going to go with the low GPA holding you back. You have to get that up to be competitive. Also take a look at which schools you applied to and maybe add some with lower GPA averages.

yeah, that gpa is most likely hurting your chances. For the DAT, did you do poorly on any one section? or were your scores pretty consistent? And have you called and followed up on your applications?

my gpa isn't great i know, but the thing is i have a 3.7 last three semesters. my dat was,
BIO 21
GC 20
OC 25
RC 18
QR 18 PAT 19
I was one point away from a 21 too. thing is the gpa is bad, but its really not that awful, specially cause ive seen kids with 3.3 and 18's on predents get interviews. i am very confused as to whats up

Applying to over 25 schools makes you look too desperate. Many of my interviews they wanted me to name all the other schools I applied to. The schools want to feel you have interest in there school and didn;t just apply to every possible school. Next time apply to 15 of the lower stat schools.

if you applied USC
you still might have a chance
wait for one more month

just curious: on the AADSAS application that the schools receive, does it also list all the schools you applied to?

when did you apply and what post bac program did you complete? This doesn't make any sense to me. Do you have any type of scholastic probation? have you been out of school for a long time? what other factors are involved? I would definitely call schools after the cycle is complete and ask about this. I can't imagine the other schools know how many schools you applied to. I've been told schools don't have access to this info. I was also under the impression that while it's not guaranteed, a post bac is almost 100% assurance that you'll gain acceptance in the following year.

I'm not doing post bacc, so my opinion here might be problematic, but I saw most of predents who earned low gpa from their undergrad made pretty much like 3.9 or higher in their post bacc program..

What else did you do beside shadowing. You know shadowing is something what everyone needs to do to apply? Doing a lot of it is good, I did a lot too. But what else did you do something that can make you stand out?

How about your PS, Loe's?
BTW Your DAT is great. 👍
But if I were you, I would retake it and score 22 or higher. This high score will make the adcoms look at your application one more time.

GL!!

Regardless of gpa, how renowned the school you attended and difficulty level of major is a big factor. I have a whatever gpa, but I graduated from a decent university with a difficult major.
Also, performance while in a 4 year college or 2yr JC + 2yr major college is a good reflection of how you will fair in dental school because there isn't post grad work if someone messes up in dental school. AdComs aren't idiots and they know people go into a master's because their undergrad gpa is low or they need to complete their science requirements.
In any case, don't lose hope. You still have a shot at several private schools that take students with lower gpa, but higher dat scores.

man i went to a low tier one school as a physics major. aint no joke. thats the thing i regret. i wish i went to a tier 3 school as a different major.l

Yea, I wish I knew what the hell I was doing 10 yrs ago too.

Interesting, so you're saying that most of the time Dental Schools know which other schools you applied too? Hmmm, maybe when you send them your DAT's they get to find out where they all they were sent to.

i don't think schools know where you applied to. They will, however, know if you're holding multiple acceptances around May 15-ish if you don't decide on one school by then.

I bet it's either OP's personal statement or he had not-so-good LOR(s).

I was told by a couple of schools that they do not know which other schools you applied to unless you tell them. Why else would so many schools ask you on the secondary and during the interview? They only find out if you are holding multiple deposits at schools after May 1st.

sorry to steal op's thunder but I had to ask.

Dent2009? what made you choose Temple over Penn and UMDNJ? Don't get me wrong, Temple is great.👍 Just outta curiosity.

I got quite a list of schools i applied to myself, little shy of 31, however.

Did you directly address your low GPA and stress your post-bac either in your PS or by letter? Also, did you stress your new since of purpose since "discovering" dentistry and how this decision has driven you to perform better? With the application process getting more competitive, you have to really take what appears to be a negative and turn it into a positive to even get looked at. I'd take a look at how you presented yourself on the application and I'd also try to determine if it was enough or if you need to sell yourself better. For next cycle, I'd re-take the DAT even though your scores are good. It shows you are still striving to be more competitive. Shadow more, volunteer more, etc. But most of all, sell yourself to them which can be hard for some people.
