Is it mandatory to rank all the programs that you interviewed at or can you leave one out? For example, I interviewed at 4 places, and would definitely like to attend the first 3 of the 4. The last place I interviewed at, I do not want to go there at all. Is their a way to either withdraw from that program or not rank it all so I wont get penalized for future matches?

Thanks in Advance!

Just don't rank it.

He's absolutely right. And for those of you about to rank...do yourself a tremendous favor and actually read how the ranking algorithm works. The people that think they can get an edge by ranking their best shot and not favorite school DO NOT UNDERSTAND MATCH.

Embrace the algorithm

correct! rank only the programs you're interested in and do so in order of your favorite --> least favorite. match works in applicants favor, not program.

I cant remember the numbers exactly, but I believe if you interview at 4 programs then the chance you get one of your top 2 choices is over 90%.

best of luck.

If you don't rank a program, it is impossible to match there. So leave it off if you don't want to attend. Along the same lines, if a program absolutely hates a candidate they interviewed, they don't have to rank him.

Absolutely hates is too strong. I did not absolutely hate any of the applicants I interviewed, but many did not make the ROL. That's what the interview is for.
