Does anyone else feel like there is no way they will be ready to take boards next week. I've studied every single day since our last day of school, yet I'm still doing horrible when I take the old exams. Is there anyone else out there like me or is everyone totally prepared.

AMEN. All we can do now is PRAY.

I decided to take the computerized version just for this scenario. I'd rather pay the extra money and take the test when I felt I was ready for it (tentative plan is July 21st). I spoke to a few classmates today that signed up for the written but are now trying to get out of it b/c they're not ready for it. It's my understanding that if they want to do this, they have to forfeit the original amount and have to pay the full fee for the computerized version as well.

I've been studying every day since my last final as well ----- which was yesterday July 5th!!!! 😱 Sometimes I really hate my school. 😡

I don't feel anywhere close to ready. I think from here on out, I'm going to focus on old tests and a few really good dental anatomy handouts a prof made for us.

For those of you taking the boards next week, good luck. Also, remember there is a huge curve for this exam. You don't need to get a 75/100 to pass, for most of the sections passing or 75% is actually between 42-50 right out of 100 for that section. so relax, when july 11th comes around the computerized peeps, like myself, will envy you. Good luck, and remember the worst that can happen is you have to take it agian. It's not like that stress of taking the DAT (not getting into school at all if you bomb it), you're in thats the hardest part.

Best of luck to all,

DesiDentist

I was practicing with the old tests and was doing quite well. Then, when I started with the more recent ones, I realized that the questions are no longer being repeated. I feel so foolish. I wish I were giving the computerized test at the end of the summer.

That response surprises me because I took the 1996 exam on monday and I think about 20-25% of the questions were still direct repeats. Dental Anatomy was higher (close to half were direct repeats or very close) In my book, that means you only have to recognize those and come up with correct answers on another 30 on your own to pass the exam.

The Pilot exam I took yesterday seems pretty repetitive too. Best of luck.

Hi guys,
Thia might sounds really stupid but whats pilot exam? Does anyone know is there a released exam for 2000 and on. Also did anyone take exam recently? I keep hearing that the exam is completely diff, nothing is repeated and it level of difficulty is higer. True?
Thanks

The pilot exam is a test that the board gave to schools who volunteered to be ginea pigs for a trial of the new case-based version of part I. The case-based questions won't show up until at least 2006 (so I hear) so don't worry about seeing something incredibly new on Monday.

As for difficulty level and repeats...I guess we'll all know on Monday.

true , nothing is repeated , i hardly had about 5 repeats in anatomy , 2-3 in biochem -physio, 3-4 in path/micro and about 10 in DA/occlusion.
the exam was definitely more difficult than the released papers.
but dont worry , passing is not difficult , but if u want to score above 90 then u need to work hard, passing is really a piece of cake.
all the best....

I just hope I pass. I'm making like 50s and 60s on old exams with only 3 days left to study. I want to believe that a 45 raw score will somehow turn into that magic 75 but I just have a hard time believing it.

If we fail we get pulled out of clinic until January. 😱 I don't want to be in dental school for 5 yrs!!!!

Even though they weren't the same questions, do you think the old tests helped you. Was it the same information?

When did you take the test and what format did you use? Was it computer or paper? Did you have any unreleased questions? I have heard that there were many repeats in all sections. On all of the past years. Since next year is the new format do you really think they wrote all new questions for the last old format exam? 06 may be a different story but for the written on monday I say old exams are the way to go. The quoted post completly contradicts everything upperclassmen and other evidence has indicated. I will post again tuesday and we shall see...

Im not ready for the 11th either....but because I have my second gross exam.......HEAD AND NECK! 😡

Wow, 100+ posts and you can't respond to my questions? You shouldn't just go all seagull on a thread about a topic that doesn't concern you anymore then not answer, unless you get your kicks by trying (emphasis on trying) to add un-needed stress on already maxed out people. Especially when everything most everyone else says directly contradicts your statement. Go bother the people about to take part II or licensure exams, were all stocked up on stress here.

Damn, that's harsh! Anyone else's school impose any punishments for no passing? I gotta tell that to the 1st/2nd years here and maybe they won't think they have it so bad.

I just went to this link that somebody had posted on another thread. http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/natboard/technical_nbde_04_report.pdf

Scroll down to page 75 and you will see the minimum raw passing score for the last 7 years. It sure gave me a boost of confidence to see that the bar is set so low. Not that I'm going to blow this thing out of the water, but it at least looks like I might pass if things don't deviate too much this year.

Not now but I heard they're going to make it that way starting next years class. Sucks. Not only do you have to pay for the stupid exam again but you're gonna have to pay for an extra semester of school as well since there's no way you could catch up by the original graduation date.

well to answer your questions
i took the CBT in jan2005 .
i did not have any unreleased questions but ive heard that there are a lot of repeats from the unreleased papers
well i hope u get all the repearts that u want ..
i wish u the best for your exam..
im an international trained dentist and even though ive been out of touch with basics since the past few years.. i graduated in 2002 .. i easily got a mid 80 after just revising old papers and decks once.
as admission into an advanced standing programme is based on our part 1 scores i repeated my exam for which i really studied hard for 2 months and managed to get a mid 90 thus i said that passing is really easy .
all the best.
