I wanted to hear from some of you out there who switched from other professional schools like pharm, dent or PhD programs to medical school. I graduated undergrad in 2001. I was a very strong student and did a lot of extracurricular and stuff including going abroad to do a paper on pediatric malnutrition. But then I thought that med school would be very difficult for me financially (since I had to bankroll the whole operation myself) and took up a field that was (a lot) more financially gratifying and one that I got a scholarship for. Nonetheless I realized that I had made a grave mistake and want to pursue medicine a 100% regardless of cost or future income. I am taking my MCATS in Aug and have started to do some research.
I dont think I will be regarded as "traditional" or for that matter "non- traditional" since I am only 23 years old and worst of all I am ORM so not so sure of any special breaks from ADCOMs.
Worst comes to worst I would settle for SGU I mean I am pretty good with the basic sciences so not too worried about passing the boards, but US med would be so much better because I want to pursue a career in academics.
I would really appreciate it if anyone else out there who went through something similar would be willing to share the experience.
Thanx
