I'm in bit of a sticky situation to explain, but because of engineering courses I'm enrolled in and need to complete, I need to drop O-chem to make room and free up time (the engineering courses are the most intensive at my school (BME) and require many hours of research and building) even though I'm doing very well in the course (have about a 95 average after 1/3 exams). I'm a sophomore and plan on taking the MCAT at the end of next summer ( I completed all the other science pre reqs last year), but as I now need to drop O-chem I and only O-chem II is offered in the spring, I understand that taking the MCAT without orgo I and ii is highly discouraged, but I talked with my orgo professor and he said I could audit orgo 2 if I wish, what do you guys think? I would continue learning orgo I on my own and then audit orgo 2 in the spring and treat it legitimate to learn the material. That way, I would still have orgo covered for the MCAT. Then I would take orgo I and II junior year. Also, I did get a C- in a cell bio course freshman year so I would be able to retake that next semester in place of orgo 2.

Thoughts?

It's a bit of a gamble but I think it could work out okay. The orgo you learn in school is typically much more complex than the multiple choice orgo on the MCAT. You really just need to understand the basics.

I took the MCAT without taking orgo 2, which was fine. IMO if you understand the concepts from orgo 1, orgo 2 is easy. However, taking it without a fundamental understanding of the orgo 1 concepts would be risky.
