It's nearing the end of the admission cycle, and I've only had two interviews, from SIU and SLU. I was waitlisted at SIU and still waiting to hear back from SLU (interview was last week). Obviously my application has a hole somewhere... question is where. Trying to decide what to do for the next year if I don't get in.

I applied to:

University of North Carolina
Emory
Boston
Wake Forest
Tufts
University of Illinois
Georgetown
George Washington
University of Chicago
Creighton
Rush
Loyola
Saint Louis
Temple
Penn State
Southern Illinois
Rosalind Franklin
Drexel

I finished my last secondary by September.

Stats:
Illinois Resident
B.S. in Biomedical Engineering graduating in May '12
Graduating with 154 credits in four years
3.65 Cumulative GPA (Only reason it's so low is I screwed up one semester frosh yeah with a 3.1, and I've had a 3.85+ since)
3.51 Science GPA
32R MCAT
Excellent LORs (I haven't seen them, but all 4 interviewers I've met has gone out of the way to comment how wonderful they are)
1500+ hours of Research
300+ hours of hospital volunteering
50+ hours of shadowing
600+ hours of other community service work
Fairly decent ECs

Obviously I'm missing something. Question is what? I was debating SMP programs, but after talking to a couple of them, they say my gpa/mcat is a bit on the high side for any of those grade-boosting programs...

Any ideas? Any and all help would greatly be appreciated. I'm really set on medical school, and desperately trying to figure out a way to strengthen my application for next cycle in case this one falls through.

Yeah your gpa is good. SMP isn't necessary. That being said, you could either apply super early this coming cycle or apply to some other programs. Tulane has an ACP program where you take anatomy with medical students. Requirement is that you are waitlisted at a medical school. It's a good option imo.

Did you apply late?

Sounds like you have everything in order, perhaps it's something in your PS or secondaries.

My school doesn't release information to AMCAS until July 17th, and I ended up applying on August 20th. Received and returned my secondaries over the following 3-4 weeks.

I had doctors look over both my PS and my secondaries.

That could have influenced it somewhat. If you end up reapplying, make sure that you submit your transcripts in early June and submit your application around then as well. That way, you can be good to go once your school submits information to AMCAS. My school, similarly, didn't release my committee letter until September 6, but my AMCAS application was already verified and most of my secondaries already submitted at that point.
