its been more than 6 weeks. I logged in and all transcripts have been received.
what am i not verified yet? has this happened to anybody else? I have my secondaries ready and need to apply dammit.

contact AMCAS. It shouldnt take that long, but all you can do is get in touch with them and find out why it hadnt been verfied yet. You did submit it... right?

no. I did not submit. I thought after they receive all your transcripts, they start verifying, and after you have been verified, you submit. so my assumption was not right?

hi guys
so I just submitted. I am such an idiot, now i have to wait another 6 weeks. wish me good luck.
so when a school says their deadline is October 15th, does that mean I have to be verified by October 15?
If I am not verified, can I still apply to the school with a non-verified application?

I think the deadline is for the school to have your verified primary application on their desk by that date, but you should definitely call and ask one of the schools in question.

Generally that deadline means you need to submit their secondary and accompanying fee by that date. You, sir are in quiet a pickle. Contact the admissions office right away. Be honest, do no make excuses, and plead shamelessly for mercy.

Primary deadlines are usually around October/November. Secondary deadlines are usually around December/January.

Aw man, you're raining on my brimstone parade! 😡

Edit: Dousing my brimstone raining? Deploying the brimstone umbrella?

What is brimstone...

No, the AMCAS submission deadline means that you have to submit your AMCAS application before Oct. 15. They won't take 6 weeks to verify it, though, if everything is in order. More like 2-3 weeks at this point. Check out last year's verification thread for reassurance:

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=734116&page=10

That said, you want to be verified before the schools' secondary deadline with enough time to fill out their secondaries.

EDIT: some schools will let you start working on the secondary before the primary is verified, and regardless, all of the essay prompts are available on SDN's school-specific threads, so get cracking!

so you mean when they said the primary application's deadline is october 15th, that means they will accept a non-verified primary?

Again, this phrasing makes me think that the primary must be verified by the deadline: AMCAS Medical School Application Deadlines for the 2012 Entering Class

All deadlines below are set by individual medical schools. Submit materials as early as possible to avoid processing delays and missed deadlines. Materials received during peak periods may take considerably longer to process. Further, processing does not begin until AMCAS receives all required official transcripts and the completed application. Official Transcripts for regular applicants must be received within 14 calendar days after the application deadline. Materials that are returned for correction do not satisfy deadline requirements. August 1 is the Early Decision Program (EDP) deadline for both application and official transcript submission.

AMCAS does not grant deadline extensions for any reason. Applicants seeking a deadline extension must contact the medical schools directly.

The deadlines posted on this site and in the MSAR are subject to change during an application cycle. The most up-to-date information is available in the Medical Schools section of the AMCAS application. Deadline dates for Regular M.D. and M.D.-Ph.D. applications are listed below. If applicable, the deadline dates for Regular M.D. and M.D.-Ph.D. programs at any particular school are the same date unless otherwise noted.

An AMCAS deadline is the date by which the application and fee must be received by AMCAS. You must certify and submit your web application and pay the fee by 11:59 p.m. (ET) of the deadline date. It is not the date that the application must be received by your designated medical school(s).

Verification doesn't take as long because ~98% of applicants have already submitted at this point. 😳

its so vague, I dont get it. so, lets say I want to apply to university of chicago. deadline is october 15. If I apply today, then its ok, even though I am not verified?

There's the AMCAS deadline, then there's the school's deadline. Your AMCAS application absolutely needs to be verified by the school's deadline. From the FAQs on the UofChicago Pritzker SOM website:

"Our AMCAS application deadline is midnight, Eastern Standard Time, October 15th. In order to have all the elements of an application (verified AMCAS application, secondary application, and letters of evaluation) included for review, they must be submitted or post-marked by midnight, Central Standard Time, December 1st. All applications will be read and considered even if elements are not submitted. However, applications missing either the letters of evaluation or secondary application, or unverified AMCAS applications are at a significant disadvantage. Moreover, being early in the application process is advantageous since we operate using rolling admissions. Please also be aware that web sites may be heavily trafficked and very slow near the deadlines."

So yes, you just have to submit and pay the fee for the AMCAS application by Oct 15th for most schools in order to be eligible to continue in this cycle.

NOW, all that said, with such a late submission, you're going to need a lot of dominoes to fall your way to get an interview and make it all happen, so it's important to be clear-eyed about that as you proceed.
