Whats up guys...

I dont really have a question per se, just wondering you other people would think this meant....

I was talking to my pre-med advisor and I mentioned to him how i was planning on applying and hopefully attending a top 10 med school. You must understand i come from a small university and my advisor is all about the in-state schools. Now every time the guy sees me his looks at me with these crazy eyes--these eyes of intent. i'm not sure if he doesnt like me anymore or maybe he thinks that i think im better than him or other people. But i do think he may be looking to sabotage anything of mine that goes through him (it may have slipped that i didnt think much of a couple of the med schools that are in-state). Anyway i think i should prolly just have a sit down with him and try to make him like me again....lol...people take things so personal..

Dude, sounds like you're being paranoid. Chill out. I'm sure he's not this diabolical premed guy that's plotting against you. My guess is: He's not thinking about you. ANd when it comes time to handle your recs and stuff, he'll just send them along...rather perfunctorily.

If you approach him, you'll come off as crazy....that's gonna hurt ya.

It may have more to do with whatever your comments were about in-state schools and your reasons for wanting to go to a top-10 school (even the moniker top-10 is a US News bunch of crap).

There are many great med schools, not just the top-10's, and if you somehow gave the sense that all you're after is the ranking, it would come off badly to most pre-med advisors. They've seen a ton of aspiring docs and their motivations, and you could assume that most advisors believe in the nobility of the career they're helping people enter.

With that said, a second role of a pre-med advisor is to get people into med school. Yes, a good med school that they like, but also _a_ med school. Colleges tout figures like: "our pre-meds have a 97% acceptance rate to med school", and parents (and some students) care about that. Note the similarity between this and the figures med schools throw out about residency matches.

Advisors have a ton of experience, so listen to what they say. Apply to your reach schools also, but keep in mind that you don't want to be doing this again next year because you shunned the school 50 miles away. Stop being paranoid too 😀

Well if you thought i was being paranoid think again....i went to talk to him today and he pretty muich gave me the shaft, very indirect, generic responses.

And...AND...as i walked out of his office, i looked back to find him again staring at me with those eyes of intent. Not 10 mins ago he tried to trip me. So what does that say; i will be the first to admit i can be cocky...but this is beyond reason.
