I am wondering what my odds of getting into a Caribbean medical school are at this point.

I applied to US school and have not heard anything yet. I have a Bachelors degree in engineering, with a double major in mechanical engineering and biomedical engineer. I have a master's degree in mechanical engineering.

I have 3.0 undergraduate GPA and a 3.7 graduate GPA. I have a 33 on the MCAT P12 V11 B10. I have a lot of research experience with 2 first author papers.

I know my undergraduate GPA is killing my chances of getting into US medical schools. I hear on the radio I can apply to Ross for May 2008. Is this true? Do I have a chance if I get my application in this weekend? I really like orthopaedics... do Caribbean medical school students have a chance at orthopaedics?

Any advise is appreciated.

Matt

So shadowing? Patient experience? volunteering? If you do not have these then you will not get into a US school, if you do not have these then your adviser sucks because this is the minimum needed to get into a US medical school in 2008.

If you thought research alone was enough then you have found out it is not

only 40% of all that are qualified get accepted to a US medical school. Sorry

As far as May for Ross no problem you should apply now, you should get in.

LOL... keep trying in the US...avoid the Carib if you can

Thanks for the responses.

I volunteered for a semester in a major teaching hospital, and shadowed my thesis adviser (a orthopaedic surgeon).

Any other ideas why I am having no luck with US schools? If I want to go into surgery and cant get in MD, is it better to go DO or Caribbean?

Thanks!
