Technology notebook suggestions?

My dell inspiron is dying a slow, horrible death and I need to get on finding myself a new notebook! I want something small and light enough to lug around on campus (I am in my last year of undergrad) but big enough to type in comfort- I do most of my notetaking electronically and use CD resource materials alot with my studying, so it has to have an optical drive. Anybody have any suggestions/ reviews?

I recently bought a macbook it was between that and a toshiba convertible tablet. there are plenty of high quality machines out there and others opinions are not the gospel (although I love my macbook). Figure out what features you want-what works for you and what you are required, Get a good warranty and the best buy you can get

Yes lenovo or toshiba make good notebooks but if you want to drop 2 grand and get an awesome notebook get a macbook pro.

To be honest there are a million options in a million price ranges and a million sizes/styles.....

Biggest things to consider (in that order):
Price
Size
Features

Although the HP is a good comp and a great price, good choice.
