I'm currently holding positions on 9 waitlists (waiting only on a post-interview response from UCLA). Obviously I'm getting a bit antsy and was wondering if anyone in the same position had some advice on what to do now.

I'm very interested in all of the schools I've interviewed at and have tried to write meaningful letters to that effect for all of them - I've sent about 4 so far. I've also kept the schools updated about new activities/awards since my interviews.

As May 15th approaches, what should I do? I've read some threads on here where people have contacted deans, and other administrators, what do you say?

Should I call the admissions offices more often? Would an in-person visit help for nearby schools? What else would help?

Thanks for the help and good luck everyone!

I guess for waitlists, you could write a letter of intent, explaining why you want to attend their school, why it's your top choice etc. Also, updating any activities you've done since your interview might be helpful too!

Good luck!

5/15 is approaching soon! I'm sure you'll be accepted somewhere with 9 waitlists (I hope you're not counting Vanderbilt cause nearly everyone post-interview who isn't accepted gets waitlisted). Everyone who is stuck on waitlists should see more action in these coming months. Good luck!

If you are on a wait list, you wait. In the meantime, you should have your application ready for reapplying next year. If you don't have an acceptance, you can end up having to reapply. The worst thing that you can do is sit around and end up applying late as a reapplicant because you are waiting until the last minute for an acceptance. Some schools will have a large amount of movement in waitlists and some won't. You can't afford just sit around and do nothing.

Try to figure out why you ended up being waitlisted (without calling the admissions office), correct and update everything and get ready for next year. The best case is that you get in somewhere this year but you don't want to "screw" yourself if you end up reapplying for next year by not having your stuff ready to go. Until you get an acceptance, you have the chance of having to reapply.

Letters of intent don't really do much. If you were offered admission, would you NOT attend that medical school? If you send out 9 letters saying that each of those medical schools are your top choice, then you would be lying. If you are on a waitlist, you are not rejected but the committee has reviewed you application and made a decision. At this point, there isn't much that you can do other than wait and NOT be a pest. Calling admissions offices is counterproductive unless they contact you for more information.

Look at it this way, you could be sitting there with 9 rejections too.

Hey njbmd,

Thanks for the advice, tough to hear but I needed that. I haven't yet started reapplying (hadn't even considered that actually), but I will start getting my things together again. I'll keep hoping for something to work out, but it's definitely good to plan ahead.

Thanks again.
