NOVA class of 2007

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Again, congrat's on your acceptances... see, the Fern candy did work... didn't we tell you that? 😱

I setup a website for ya'll (yes, you will be saying that soon too!).

NSUCOM Class of 2007

I'll tweak it as we go (and time-permitting). As I can say and my classmates can verify, USING our website helped immensely as we got the chance to talk before we even got to orientation.

Great resources here also: QuinnNSU is a plethera of pearls - don't you miss ADRIANSHOE (aka John Shoemaker), Quinn? 🙂 I still have all your dialog and posts from 1.5-2 years ago... very educational...

Congrats again!

Thanks Amra! I appreciate taking time to do that for us 🙂

I can't wait until July to move down to Florida.... Just to let people know who are looking for housing - My brother went to see all the apartment compexes around the school and they all wanted us to fill out applications by the end of January. I don't know if that was just to scare us, but I just thought I'd let you know.

And if you're from somewhere North (like me in freezing Philly), then I'm sure you're like me and anxious to get away from this cold snowy weather! 🙂

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!! (sorry, I just had to.... couldn't help it)
😀

AMRA-

ah, yes, AdrianShoe.... I remember that whole fiasco. And that was THREE years ago! Wow. Crazy I've been on SDN that long (although I didn't really REALLY start posting until my ERAS season started)...

About Adrianshoe... you know what... my opinion has vastly changed. I will keep a gag order in line until I graduate... and I"m not sure I will post my thoughts anyways on this site, as it is completely uni-directional (and NSUCOM can't respond)...

As a first year, things are very rosy. As you go through the system, things definately change. *sigh*

Anyways, for those getting their acceptances, congratulations! This is a great website to get people's opinions and stuff re: the big move/start in medical school...

AMRA,

Thank you so much for setting up the website for us - you are awesome. Thanks to all the upperclassmen's assistance and advice, hopefully our transition to M-1:clap: will be a smooth one.

War Eagle,
Samantha

hey y'all,
Found out I got accepted into Nova and I must say that after seeing the place...I really can't wait to go there. The place is awesome! Anyway feels good to get into medical school in Florida. Can't wait to meet all my future classmates

Does anyone know when orientation starts?? Also what events do they have planned?

later peeps🙂

Hi Kumar28,

I emailed to find out the dates of orientation b/c I have a wedding to go to in early August; I was told that Orientation begins on August 4th at 1 and goes through the 8th - then, we have the White Coat Ceremony on August 10th and classes begin the 11th -- I heard last year's dates were changed so I don't know if these dates will stand, but it is the info I was given via email. Can't wait to meet you guys.

War Eagle,
Samantha

All hail webmaster Brian! U da man! Already a website for 2007? Between you and Fred (Stickboy), I bet you sleep 4 or 5 hours a night! How else can you explain all that either of you get done?

You 2006ers have done a great job! I am still waiting for the story for the "surprising" interview tours. What happened to continuing that tradition? 😉 😀

Kate... OMG, you cannot let *all* our secrets out until they start orientation - otherwise what fun will they have? We cannot tell them about the secret handshake either...

Oh-oh-oh-so much to do-so little time!

Quinn-

That was 3 years ago? Damn, we getting old (although I personally seem to get better with age 😎 ).

I understand alot of what John said better now (and some of what you are refering to). Overall, the thing that I've learned is that a) I'm going to graduate a physician and b) all schools have similiar. I'm still exceeding happy with my choices - as bottom line, you get out what you put in...

Gawd, does that message say alot of nothing or what? 🙄

I read this on a board and thought some of you might get a kick out of it.

First-year students at Med School were receiving their first anatomy class with a real dead human body. They all gathered around the surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started the class by telling them, "In medicine, it is necessary to have 2 important qualities as a doctor: The first is that you not be disgusted by anything involving the human body."
For an example, the Professor pulled back the sheet, stuck his finger in the butt of the corpse, withdrew it and stuck it in his mouth. "Go ahead and do the same thing," he told his students. The students freaked out, hesitated for several minutes, but eventually took turns sticking a finger in the butt of the dead body and sucking on it. When everyone finished, the Professor looked at them and told them, "The second important quality is observation. I stuck in my middle finger and sucked on my index finger. Now pay attention."

Does anyone know anything about the club for med students' spouses? Are there any sports teams for them? What teams do they have for the students?

Look forward to hearing from you guys.

Throughout your first and second years at NSUCOM, there will be a lot of intramural sports (they go by the season). By far the most popular in my class was football, soccer, basketball, and softball. Actually, those may be the only intramural sports, DUR me. Anyways, students and their spouses can play on those teams...

Ah, I fondly remember the days of the softball team I headed up, second year... yes, indeed, the 2-4 "Sausage Party" team. Ah you shoulda see the jerseys I had made.

Hey all,
Just wondering if it is possible to get a fourth years opinion at Nova on securing a pm& r residency position. Are there many PM&R residency sites available in Florida. Anything at the sites that you do your clinicals in?

Thanks

Your best bet for AOA residencies would be the AOA website (www.aoa.net).

Late for class-

Kumar-
I know atleast two people in my class who are going into PM&R next year (although PM&R requires you to do a transitional year before you start yoru PGY2-4 years). I do not believe they are doing their PM&R residencies in FL, and I do not believe there are that many PM&R residencies. I also believe that people who are not AOA members can access the AOA's residency website, bu tI could be wrong.

Anythign else I believe/do not believe?

Uhm, those two people I know are going into MD PM&R residencies. PMR is not that competitive, so I think an average student can secure a spot in most MD residencies.

Quinn,

It sounds like you had a lot of fun your first 2 years at Nova. One of my gifts and faults is my ability to have a good time, and (frequently) too good a time.

I wanted to know looking back on your first couple years at NSU what didn't you do that you wish you had done, what did you do that was extremely cool, and what did you do that you wish you hadn't done? Tough questions I know but I'm trying to make sure Med. school is as good time (and maybe a little more productive) as undergrad was for me.

Thanks for the info.

Hey Quinn, I remember reading those heated discussions a few years ago that adrianshoe wrote. I am a seconfd year now and would love to go back and read them. I did a search for adrainshoe's posts but wasn't able to find which one it was in. Do you know which thread it is in?

hi everybody....
Just wanted to let anyone in the NOVA class of 2007 that doesn't know, there's a forum for us on the following link:

http://www.nsucom.info/

Hope to hear from you all soon and looking foward to meeting everybody!

Sorry for not responding to your two posts earlier... its been pretty crazy the past couple weeks, with my rank list due for residency... but now that its in and there's nothing else I can do, I can post more often...

oxford: not sure if those posts will still be available, that was 3 years ago mang... i think the thread topic was "Nova means don't go"

Maverick: Med school is a fun time. There IS time to go out. For most people. Some people still need to study 5 hours a day, 7 days a week, but most peopel don't. I went out almost every Fri/Sat and got waste-o and had a great social life...

I would suggest you continue what you did in college. Obviously you were good enough to get into medical school, and you got your act together, so i wouldn't tinker with that. MS is harder than undergrad, no doubt, but it can be easily managed.

Just thought I'd give this thread a lil bump....

For all my fellow Class of 2007 Novanians out there....drop a line if you read this forum...

So any dates on moving down for those of you who haven't moved yet??

Looks like July 25th for me!

Mani

I'll be there July 15th!! 😀

My brother is already in our apartment at Cedar Key - he says it is pretty awesome - lakefront view, first floor, good exercise room, etc. So I am pretty psyched about getting down there..... My friends going to PCOM are still giving me grief about it, but I don't care. I'm ready for an adventure... See you all there! 🙂 🙂

Hi there everyone,
Congrats to everyone accepted to Nova this year! I was accepted early this month and I can't wait to begin in August! I already have an apartment in Cedar Key and am in the process of moving in.
I'm very excited to meet everyone and hope to hear from you all soon. 🙂

I re-did the whole main part of the site. Forums still running as normal... more nfo for the incoming students..

I wonder if you will change it once classes get into session....like will you clear out all the old messages(intro's..etc..)?

Anyways, great job with it all! Its good that we dont have to take up too much room on SDN for our chat sessions...cuz we got our own website baby!!! woohoo

Just curious. Any of the incoming class of 2007 graduate from Florida Atlantic University?

Hi! I'm a 3rd year DO student living in a condo in University Village. It's a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 1800 square feet. Unfortunately, my roommates are doing their rotations next year out of the area, so I need two or three new people to live here (I'm not sure right now if I'll be in the area or not..). It's a good place to live, in a condo community and the walk to your seat in class is just under 10 minutes (it's helped me a couple of times when I've forgotten a paper or some IGC forms and went home during a class break to get them).

I posted an ad under the Housing category (from the main directory) but this seems like a good place to mention it again. If you have any questions about the condo or the first 3 years, feel free to ask 'em. 😀

Congratulations to all the new students and best of luck to everybody!

(ps, 3rd and 4th year are awesome, you just have to get through all that there book learnin')

This may sound like the stupidest question in the world, but here goes....

I was just accepted for 2004 incoming class at NSU and am wondering if students go to class during the summer months? Is it an optional thing if you want to do electives?

Thanks! I'm looking at leases, which is wy I ask.

drlexygoat,

The first year, classes start mid-august. There are no classes offered prior to that. Second year starts in the second week of July. There aren't any electives until rotations. The only other summer classes are if you want to do the anatomy fellowship or if you are in the MPH program.

I hope that helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I'm only an M1, but I can tell you whatever I know.

Good luck!!
