NOVA closed again??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, God is mad at Florida. He's trying to warn them not to go republican again.

Back to the OP's question; During a strom like this they try to protect the computer equipment as best as possible since the area Nova is located floods REALLY bad. You shouldn't worry about the committee meeting. In fact that comment is selfish and self-centered on your part. They will get to you when they can and believe me, if Nova has power and it's somewhat safe, Nova will make their employees report to work!

I am so sick of people taking cheap shots at republicans. What did I ever do to you? 🙁

Yes Nova is closed today...in fact I can't get to my emails but the main page was up cause it has the hurricane info. At least it was this morning.

This has been a VERY long hurricane season here and I know most people are anxious around the school for many reasons...study time....exam schedule....missed classes....interview times...committee meetings....yadda yadda. There is a lot riding on things.

What i do think some people lose some aspects upon is something you don't think about without being here. This is a nasty storm. It has the ability to beat things down and hurt people both physically and emotionally. I know a lot of people are shot when it comes to these big storms.....I know I didn't even know about it until these last few days....and I really didn't care. Then I got wise and got prepared. Its a little draining trying to study a bunch of subjects for medical school and worry about having enough canned food....batteries for a radio...realizing that I couldn't get gas yesterday cause all the pumps were dry (I have a quarter tank)....and having a distraction of not knowing how hard it will hit or if it will just glance us like the others.

Anyway, point being is yes...the school is closed today and we'll keep our fingers crossed that things will be cool.

Edit: This post sounds slightly down on south florida but I really do love living in this area and the school

I know it is frustrating to wait for decisions to be made. The NSU site is down for now. Here is a link to the NSU Hurricane Storm Advisory. If the school is closed on Monday, it should be posted here. They should also have storm updates available.

self-centered you say??? I thought I said this is bad news for everybody who interviewed within the last couple of weeks, and not just me...

and another thing my friend: did I ever blame NOVA for anything??

Dude, people could lose their HOMES and LIVES. Your comment was a little insensitive to that fact. They will make their decision when it is safe to do so.

My thoughts exactly since I have lost quite a bit in Hurricane Andrew

Florida must have really pissed God off. I guess that is what happens when your state looks like a penis that's urinating on the Caribbean.

Okay, to get back off of this tangent...

I flew out of Ft. Lauderdale yesterday and I don't believe that they were really affected much by this most recent hurricane. Heck, miami beach was gorgeous on Monday--so we know they didn't get much of anything.

Regardless, I know the committee was supposed to meet on Monday, but am not sure if this really happened. Does anyone know if the admissions committe met?

I'd just like to say again....I feel your pain but NSU was quite quick to get back to me. I interviewed on the 12th and had a phone call on the 17th.

Just for comparison I was notified by LECOM 2+ months after interviewing there and Penn State about 1 1/2 Months after interviewing there so....I still think NSU is quite quick....

then again...this is a new year with a new format.

The Admissions Committee did meet. I believe some letters are being sent out today. Good luck everyone.

mza,

emailing the "right" person has helped me in the past...

I am an Ambassador for NSUCOM. Also, yes you can call and they will tell you if you were accepted.

Everyone waiting for a decision - please call NSU and make sure that your file is complete. You will not be reviewed until your file is complete; being granted an interview does not mean that your file is complete. Good Luck!

That is very good advice. I thought that my file was complete, but after not hearing back from the first two committee meetings, I called and found out that there was an issue with one of my letters, therefore they didn't accept my DO letter and my file was not complete. In addition, if people call to ensure their files are complete, that might be fuel for the school to put an application status on their web site like so many other schools do.

Agreed, I called earlier this week and was pleasently surprised by what they told me. 😀 Maybe I will be moving to the Ft. Lauderdale area next year. 🙂

mzafaran,

If NSU is your first choice, you could write a letter of intent ensuring that if you are accepted to NSU, you will go there. I dont know how much this matters but two of my classmates that were waitlisted said that they sent in a letter of intent and were later offered a seat. Besides that, if it is your first choice, it cant hurt. Also, if you get anything else that improves your application (new grades etc), send them in. Keeping your file updated will give the committee more positive things to look at and show them that you arent playing a passive role in your education. You can also call and see if you can make a phone appointment with an admissions committee member to discuss your application and how you can improve it. That can give you an idea about what they thought you were strong and weak in so that you can send in things that might sway their thoughts on those areas. Good luck.

Congrats kaikai128 🙂

AUdacious, its NSU students like you that are really making my decision to choose schools a whole lot easier.. 👍

Have people on here received packets from NSU recently? I know that the adcom met on Monday the 27th. I talked to them last week, and they told me that I got in and that my packet was in the mail. I guess I should quit worrying, but I just can not believe it until I have it in writing. 🙂

I'm in the same boat. I thought for sure that I would get the package by today...but nothing. Perhaps that's but just one of the pit falls of living in a large city...terrible mail service.

I was told they were all mailed on Weds PM. I can't beleive it takes this long. It seems like this is a trend with NOVA. Makes you wonder???

I don't know about trends, but I received the NSU COM packet after I got home from the interview. There is not any really important information that you must have. Just go to the Terry Building by 8:45 am.

...I am waiting on an admissions packet that was supposed to be mailed almost two weeks ago. I have other interviews coming up that I was hoping to cancel (one at least) that it looks like I am going to have to go to just because I didn't get that letter from them before now.

Funny, they asked me in my interview (twice), "How do we know you will pick our school if you are accepted here." I guess my answer should have been--I will pick your school if you send me the acceptance packet. grrrrr..

I should have read more closely . . . I thought you meant interview packets. Congratulations on the acceptances. I have my fingers crossed. My file went up for decision yesterday 😕

Since we've already hijacked this thread, did anyone have difficulty leaving Fort Lauderdale by air? Terminal 2 (Delta) had the security line backed up for over 50 minutes. There must have been 300 - 400 people waiting. This was on a Sunday night.

I just wanted to let yall know that the mail in FL has just been wierd lately, so don't blame NSU. My parents (who live in Ft. Lauderdale) mailed me a letter and it took over 2 weeks for me to get it in Tallahassee.

Finally, the acceptance packet has reached me. I was told that it was mailed out on October 1st, but in reality it was postmarked October 8th. No hard feelings though, all is well that ends well. I got in, so that is all that matters. 😀
