Hey all. I was wondering if anybody here was an HPSP recipient at Nova Southeastern. I am having major troubles getting a straight answer as to how I might be able to get my deposit money back from the Army, and what is covered in terms of equiptment (laptop ect.) and whether the school is billed for all of it, or I have to front the money. If anyone could help me, I'd appreciate it!

At Penn they said I will be refunded when the Air Force pays my bill (mid-June). Also, apparently laptops are not covered. usually with our equipment we have to pay upfront then fill out a form for repayment. But then again I am not in the Army or at Nova so good luck!

Thank you! I have heard of loopholes as well. Some schools charge the laptop directly as part of a tuition. If this isnt labeled directly as "laptop" the govt doesnt really think twice about it. Other schools make you buy it separately, but if you have a letter from an administrator saying that the specific laptop is a mandatory requirement for the program, you have a higher chance of reimbursement. I HATE loans, and would prefer not to have to take out a $10,000 loan in order to get my mandatory equiptment, books, laptop, scrubs, ect.
The Army coordinator mentioned a way to get an advance from the program. I'll try to find out details today. Blah.
I just need to find out what exactly I have to do for NOVA.

Red tape is not my friend.

I know you can get a loan to buy our uniforms so I am sure you could get one for a laptop. And it is a pain to have to buy stuff and then get reimbursed but I don't think they could do it any other way and people not take advantage of them.

FYI to anyone in HPSP. Nova and a few other schools do NOT bill equipment as part of tuition. The equipment is billed by a private contractor it seems. They can charge you monthly (Say 2k on the credit card), and you can send in monthly CDW's for reimbursement. This is the simplest way. Otherwise, you can get an itemized listing from the school, and an invoice stating the price including tax of everything necessary. Send this along with a CDW 45 days prior to enrollment, and the army will forward you the money in order to pay your expenses. I found all of this out today.

I still hate red tape. 🙄
