Hi everyone,

This is one of my first posts to this forum. the threads and information I have read so far have been extremely helpful.
I had a question about interviews at NOVA. Are the blind interviews? What types of questions are asked? What should i wear?
If anyone has been to a NOVA interview or someone who has please let me know because I have an interview there in about a month.
Thanks to you all in advance.

Hi! I just had my interview at Nova last week so I can help you out on this one...The interview is with two faculty members and you. It is not blind, they have all your information right in front of them. The questions are very straightforward and the interview is very relaxed. They'll just ask you simple things, like why you chose optometry etc. They are just trying to make sure that you have a personality conducive to working with people, so don't be shy, and ask questions!! As for the dress, Nova is VERY into their students looking professional, make sure to dress as nice as you possibly can, men-a suit and tie, women-a pantsuit and closed toe shoes. If you have any other questions I would be glad to answer them, just pm me 🙂

When did you submit your application? How long did it take to hear from NOVA?

I had everything in, including my OAT scores by the end of the first week they started accepting apps-I think it was like August 20th or something like that. They called me about an interview about a week and a half later, but like I said I had EVERYTHING in when they got my app. Hope that helps! 😀

I interviewed at Nova last year. They called me in for an interview about 3 weeks after I sent in my application (minus my OAT scores). The interview was straight forward with two professors. They asked me questions regarding my essay and they invited me to ask them questions as well. I would definitely wear a suit and just be relaxed. I think you are more than halfway there to being accepted once you get the interview. Good luck! By the way, you'll get a cool bag of stuff on your interview (including a squishy eyeball).

I got into all the opt. schools I interviewed in,

When I interviewed at NOVA, I had two people asking me questions.....
None of the questions they asked me were very surprising; I knew what they were gonna ask me before they even said anything.......

well....thats KIND OF true....
they did something I didnt really expect......
when I sat down, one of the faculty members asked me 'is this your first time in Florida?' .....
I had to think a little bit ( it wasnt my first time btw) but i thought they'd dive right into the reasons i chose optometry....
After i told them that i've been to florida before they asked me 'are you enjoing the weather....?'
I think they liked me from the get-go as they asked me b.s questions until I had to sneak what they were asking and relate it to optometry....

hmm, I m trying to think how I did that:

Like, I spoke about the different states I was in and I told them about the weather in Pennsylvania and then told them that I was just there for an interview and that they had a cool 'Eye Institute' and....right away they asked me if i knew about THEIR eye institute....etc. etc....which bring up another point...:
Do your research about their school as they will ask you about it...

to tell you the truth, I walked in there very confident and it almost seemed that if THEY didnt accept me to their school....someone else will.....
i hate saying that but its true....
Tony

p.s you'll get free stuff from NOVA , AND I THINK ITS AN AMAZING SCHOOL !!
you'll be around pharmacy students, medical students and dental students......you'll love it....

I have my interview in NOVA at the end of this week. 🙂 .. I apply to four different schools but NOVA has been the first to call me. Since I live in Miami that will be my number one choice but I dont know what to expect...I have a high gpa but i dont even have my oat scores until october... 😳 . so honestly I dont know what they are thinking...
i'll let u know after my interview how it went
:luck: good luck 😍

Well, since im kind of connected to the program, I can tell you there is a very important reason why they do that. There have been problems in the past with students that want to go to Nova to go to the beach all day. Those students end up getting booted from the program because their grades slip to unacceptable levels. By asking, they can figure out what the motivation factor is. This is the primary reason why they ask that question. Hope this helps!

I turned in my application about two days after it was available online. About 3 weeks after that, I actually received a phone call directly from the admissions office asking me to come for an interview. I was caught off guard and surprised because I figured a letter would eventually come in the mail saying whether you were selected for an interview or not. NOVA is at the top of my list, but I'm from out of state so I hope that doesn't hurt my chances. Good luck and let us all know when you hear from your schools.

Nova is not selective based on the state. You have just a good a chance being a floridian as you do if you were from Alaska

Hey chemgirlie...i was just wondering if you had heard any good news from NOVA yet. if so, how long did it take them to get back to you from the time you went for your interview? Hope everything is going well!!! 😀
