Have a question for student doc, which school is considered better mwu or nova I like both but can't determine which is better. nova is cheaper and mwu is not as established but there has been a lot excitement about mwu. I hope I hear both sides of which could be better.

How much cheaper? Would you be living at home for Nova?

They're both fine schools.

midwestern has no specialty programs (potentially you get better exposure to complex procedures), and I really liked the program their dean has designed from scratch. However, students were saying a lot needs to be fixed in the program. also the school is pretty much unknown. I guess there is no better way of knowing other than waiting to see how many D-4 students to get associate positions or get into specialties this year. another thing is that the program is not accredited yet, but I don't think it will be a problem. overall seems a bit risky compared to other established programs. nova is cheaper, but not by much compared to midwestern (~10k per year?). for some reason, I personally thought I would fit at nova better (one of those variables I can't quantify in making my decision--and i hate it). the faculty is more experienced (in teaching that is). there seem to be some concerns about patient availability (check the nova thread in school specific section). I asked a D-2 and a D-3 student about that, and it seemed that it is pretty much like any other school (if you work hard you will succeed).

My parents might move to Florida so that is a plus. I would agree with the post about being established. Mwu has only been going for 4 years and has no specialties. I think it certainly is promising and has outstanding facilities though. There has been a lot of praising of mwu and one thread even said that it's better than nova bc of brand néw facilities and novas apparent clinical issues. I was suspicious about those comments bc nova has been around since 97 and it has established specialty programs. As for cost, the adea book lists mwu tuiition at 60 k and nova at 46 k, saving 56 k over 4 yrs.

In terms of patient issues, one student voiced their concern on studentdoc whereas I am sure other students from other schools just havent spoken up. Perhaps nova is just like other schools in reality.

I would welcome any more comments promoting either school or correcting my assumptions if wrong.

I think it depends mostly on where you wanna live for the next 4 years and up.
If humidity and heat is a problem, then MWU is better.

My focus is more on the education I get and less on where the school is located. But both AZ and FL are very decent places to live, imo. Humidity is crazy in FL but during summer months both places are burning hot, not just FL.

If you are single, this is how I would rank dental schools

1) Ability to specialize (if you are set on specializing) - I'd say both are same, you'll have to be top in class
2) Price - Nova, Especially with you being from FL
3) Clinical Experience (I'd lean slightly towards MWU-AZ based off of what I know)
4) Location (who do you want to live by, weather, where you want to practice) - Sounds like Nova for you
5) Curriculum (which curriculum is better for you?) I like MWU-AZ

If I was in your position, I'd chose Nova, hope this helps and good luck!!
