Touro is a relatively new school still. The match list will get better, the resources will get better, and rotation sites will get better. I wouldn't go by what people say a good match list is on here because most of those people have no idea what a good match list is or what that even means.
Pick the school based off of if you think you will be happy there. Do you want to be in awesome NYC? or year round sunny Ft. Lauderdale? Being in school in NYC will definitely give you an edge at getting a residency in the area just b/c it is easier to make connections if you are in the area for 4 years. If research is a thing you want to do, you can basically do whatever you want at Touro in terms of lab research. You can propose your own projects and do your own thing or jump on any # of projects. They have a whole floor of state of the art labs that you can do anything in. I am unfamiliar with what NOVA has but I am sure they have some good stuff going on too.

I had the same choice as you, NOVA vs. Touro. Went Touro b/c of it being in NYC. I definitely do not think this is a con even with the other schools here. I mean..the city has 8-9 million people, there is definitely plenty of room.

Lol pick Nova and never look back.

No offense but why did it come down to NSU vs. TouroNY?
I can see if it was NSU vs. Western-P or vs. KCUMB or DMU or even Rowan. But TouroNY?? 😕 lol

Sorry not to be sarcastic but just wondering what would touroNY be comparable to?

Interesting question. Maybe the other touro schools, nycom, just my opinion.
Like touroNY brags about having students with high "MD-like" stats, but I just don't feel like they have anything to show for it in their reputation, research, rotations, etc.

You know Touro is like practically brand new right? It was established in 2007. Its only had like 3 graduating classes. What exactly are you expecting it to be showing in terms of reputation? Also, rotations are pretty good for a new school, the match list seems solid (no real red flags), and their acceptance stats are high (i.e. they can say things like "MD-like" stats, but really this has less to do with the school and more to do with the competitiveness of the region). Honestly, when I was there for my interview, they seemed like they had their stuff together. That said, it wasn't right for me, mainly because of location and cost (including cost of living).

OP, these are practically two polar-opposite schools. Location-wise, they are in different regions (FL is not NYC, and vice versa). You should be able to figure out what type of weather/city you like better. Cost-wise, you'll be spending a ton in NYC (not a lot if you are used to living in high-cost areas like LA, but I believe it will be more than you'll spend at Nova), so I don't think NSU costing a bit more tuition-wise is really a huge issue (I don't actually know the cost difference though, so if its huge it might be). Both will give you essentially the same opportunities to match in SoCal, but obviously Touro will be better for matching in NYC/NJ and Nova will be better in FL. Touro is practically brand new and Nova has been around the block a bit, that said reputation is practically meaningless with regards to DO schools, so it probably won't make a difference to you anyways.

You really just need to decide where you'd rather live and whether you'd rather match in NYC or FL. You are the only one who can really answer that question.

Nova:
Pros:
-S. Florida is amazing, with what seem like great hospitals all around.
-No attendance policy
-Students mentioned what sounded like a server that had a ton of notes, study sheets, and back work from previous years. This seemed like a huge asset and I loved the fact that students are willing to collaborate like this.

Cons:
-It does cost more
-There seem to be a lot of complaints with administration.. I was hoping someone could elaborate on this.
-Class size? (is this a con?)
-Attrition rate

I think the problems with administration might only be during the application process. They take really good care of us once we're students, and are actively implementing changes to make us happy (like non-mandatory attendance). I haven't had any problems with admin, yet.

I was accepted to both and chose Nova. For me, it was all just based on how I felt. The interview day at Touro wasn't that great for me. I did fine in the interview, but it was just a relentless battle with one interviewer hardly saying anything and the other who wanted to play devils advocate the entire time. We didn't have the opportunity to meet with a single student, which I thought was odd. At every other interview I attended I was constantly surrounded by them. It made me think they were hiding something. I am a native New Yorker, but even the opportunity to be close to home wasn't enough to make up for it. I think I will be much happier at Nova and cannot wait to start up this August!

I'm thinking I would like to go into just about anything that isn't PM&R, FM, or Path, and have my eye on EM, anesthesia, and mid-tier IM. Touro had some solid matches to good programs outside of NYC in these specialties in the past four years, so I'm not saying they aren't decent at matching their applicants to good programs, it's just they aren't going to give you stellar chances of doing any of the three at top NYC hospitals is all I'm saying. Sure, you can land path, FM, or PM&R most likely, but I doubt this is a function of going to Touro so much as it is a function of people from Touro are more likely to apply to these sorts of programs in NYC in order to stay there. Do you think you would have trouble getting in to PM&R at Cornell with awesome scores from Nova?

I did not attend nycom or touro, and I applied for pathology last year. Despite a 255 on the usmle I did not receive an interview at NYU, cornell or Columbia. I think attending nycom or touro is beneficial if you want to match in NYC, even for path, fm, and PM&R.

Did you have research? I believe those three hospitals favor applicants with research, since they are research-heavy institutions.

Some, but nothing exceptional. I was offered interviews at other good path programs, like Wash U, Mayo, Yale, etc., so I don't think my lack of research was the only reason.

Hmm I wonder what they wanted then.
