Can anyone from NOVA please comment on how lectures are set up. I heard from a couple former students that NOVA uses a different method which requires students to do more self learning outside of lectures. I looked on the website but couldn't find any solid course outline showing what a typical week for first year students.

That looks pretty standard, does NOVA have any unique style in their curriculum or is it the standard lecture based style.

first year is all lecture based..2nd year..theres a PBL session once a week..and the rest is lecture based..oh..u also see pt. during first 2 years (shadow docs).

Let me jump in here before this thing gets way out of hand. First you can do a search and find loads of info related to your question.

But to entertain your question, I'll opine.

Nova's curriculum is comparable to most other schools we have kind of the Traditional 1st year with an integrated second year that is systems based. We also have a PBL component our 2nd year, this is variable as to the quality, mine was awesome some people hated it, may be entirely personality based. As far as how well you are prepared. If you study and spend less time partying, I did my share, Nova will give you what you need. I rocked boards, I'm rocking my rotations, running circles around residents and students from other schools, in Florida.

It doesn't require anymore outside-studying than any other medical school (which you'll see is no small amount).

Can any of you comment on the hospitals you do rotations at in the area. I know nothing about them. I am interested in Burns and/or trauma surgery and have spent a lot of time shadowing/working on a burn unit and SICU at a level one trauma hospital so I'm just trying to get a feel for the hospitals around NOVA. This is probably a stupid question with Miami being so close but like I said before I don't know much except the propaganda the hospitals put out about themselves.

Jackson is a Level 1 Trauma Center with a burn unit. My step-mom works at Memorial and they air-lift all of their burn victims to Jackson. Hope that helps!

You can find the list of hospitals on Nova's website. We rotate on the trauma services at both Memorial Regional and Broward General which are both Level I Trauma Centers and each is about 15 minutesm from school. Most burns are shipped to Ryder Trauma at Jackson Memorial (Miami).
