Well I was really worried about sending in apps early and all but it does not seem it will turn out that way. I have to wait a few weeks for a LOR from two doctors that I am shadowing. Other than that, I have completed the online apps for both AMCAS and AACOMAS and have had my committee interview. I have also taken the MCAT once with a score of 28 (10PS 11BS), kind of messed up a bit on verbal with a 7 🙁. I have also sent out my transcripts. Basically, I have everything complete except for the LOR and committee packet being sent out.

My question is how much will it hurt my chances if I have to wait another 2-3 weeks to have everything sent out. I am going to be taking the MCAT again on July 30 and am getting 31-34 on the practice exams. My GPA is not stellar and it stands at a 3.46. What do you guys think this delay will have on my chances? I thought I could send in everything (even the committee letter) and mail in the additional LOR later as I get them but I was told otherwise by my adviser.

I also know that I do not stand a chance at Duke or Mayo Clinic. I will probably be applying to my state schools, Rosalind Franklin and NYMC and Temple. Getting into any of these MD schools would be a dream come true. I would also love to go to a DO school but the only thing is that they cannot practice in every single country, although that has been changing (not accredited in my country yet, unfortunately). I have great LORs so far and got all As freshmen and senior year. I only had one hiccup sophomore year but other than that I was fine. I know my stats are borderline and not great but if you have any input in any aspect of my application, please do not hesitate to respond. I will really appreciate it and it might allow me to sleep for more than 3 hours a night 😴.

No I have not submitted them, they are complete and ready to be submitted. It is only the additional LOR and future MCAT that are not completed.

I thought you could submit AMCAS without the letters all being in. Am I wrong? I was planning to submit AMCAS before all my letters are in. Should I wait?

You don't need your letters in or future MCAT done to submit. I'd submit now, so you can start getting secondaries from schools.

So I can submit the online application and without receiving the LORs and future MCAT score, they would send me the secondaries? Is this a good idea, what if based on my current MCAT score they do not think I am worthy of a secondary? I also believe that my LOR are very good and would be a strong part of my application which is why I am concerned. Thank you for everything, its really helpful.

Yes, you can. For one, most secondaries aren't screened, so you'd get them regardless of your MCAT score. Two, if they do screen, to screen for them they wouldn't even look at the letters. Letters are part of the secondary application, not the primary. Three, if you mark that you are taking a future MCAT and the school screens, they will likely put you in a hold pile or something and reconsider you with the new scores instead of just rejecting you. Now go submit.

Thank you so much ksmi!
