So i didn't get in this time around. I didn't even get an interview 🙁
I am trying to figure out what I should next. I have applied to BUMAMS, UMDNJ, VCU, abd Barry for my MS is Biomed. I still haven't heard back from them. My DAT is pretty bad 17/17/18. Gpa around ~3.0........ I have lots of exper in the field and great LORs. I am thinking if I get into the MS prog I should try applying again. I also started looking into PA schools. I considered Podiatry but it wasn't for me...... so confused....what if I still don't get in after my MS? Thanx

Do the masters program.... get an awesome GPA.
Retake the DAT... bring your scores up.

If dentistry is what you want, dont waste time looking at other professions(just yet, anyway). There are a ton of ways to make your application better.... so get working on that.

Many, many people dont get in the first time (me included). Just keep working on making your application better and more competitive.

You might also call the dean of admission at some of the schools you applied to and ask how to improve your app. My guess is that they'll tell you the same thing that the poster above advised - bring up your GPA and retake the DAT, but they might also be able to tell you how your shadowing and volunteer experience matches up with the rest of their applicant pool. It would suck to think it was adequate and then go and concentrate on raising your GPA and DAT only to find out later that you need more experience. Good luck!

Thank you for the reply. I worked as a dental assistant for 3 yrs. I've e-mailed some schools and am waiting to hear back. Which schools should I not even bother applying to?

3 years of working as a dental assistant is very impressing. Im sure that the EC part of your application is not holding you back.

Work on that GPA and DAT.

GL 😛

i would definitely retake the DAT and aim for 20+ while doing some grad work

I was wondering if I could apply to my state school and start a Masters in Biomolecular science. Its 2 yrs long....not one yr like the SMPs I've applied to. Does it really matter where I go for my Masters? Also, if I get into the Masters prog at my state school, do I have to finish the MS if I get into dental school? Thanx

Finishing the masters would depend on the school that offered you an acceptance. Some schools may take you regardless of if you finish your masters where other schools may make your acceptance contingent on finishing the masters. You'd have to ask the school.

3 years of assisting is plenty. i'd say its the gpa/dat holding you back.

Since you already have most of the education you could always go for a hygenist program - I dont know how long that would take, but it could help if you dont want to be stuck in a masters. You should probably retake the DAT too.
