Hello everyone,

I applied for one of the internal medicine fellowships this year; however, I have decided against pursuing it and going for another fellowship. In case I end up matching, I will apply for nrmp waiver for change of speciality. Does anybody know, how long does it take to process and if it is usually granted?

The Med Specialties match ROL deadline was 2 weeks ago. It's somewhat frustrating that you've decided, in the last two weeks, that you no longer want the field you've ranked. The change of specialties waiver is designed for people matching into Advanced programs (i.e. a year in the future), who then change their minds.

That said, according to the NRMP site, you qualify as long as you apply prior to Dec 15th. So you basically have 1-2 weeks to file all the paperwork.

Understand that another specialty might not consider you at all, after you resign your current position within 2 weeks. Programs may be worried that you'll do the same thing. What current and new field are you considering?
