Today, my computer lost my awesome residency finding spreadsheet I had made. It's made me question whether my research on programs is even worth it.

I'm an OMS IV who wants to do Peds. In my mind, there is nothing that could even come close, and doing adult medicine would be like torture. I'm about middle of my class (as of last June. It would be awesome if the registrar would update our transcripts.) My COMLEX I score was...bad. I passed first time, but just barely. Lots of people keep reassuring me peds isn't too competitive, but I am nervous.

To be honest, most of the ACGME programs are more attractive to me just from a geographical standpoint. So I've been researching them. Also, I'm from PA and hope to return some day, so getting my intern year of an ACGME program approved by the AOA is a must. I've literally been calling ALL of the programs and asking them. That was, until my spreadsheet bit it.

With my middle of the class grades and just passing COMLEX, is it even worth it to apply ACGME? I don't want to be in a situation where I fork over the money, get one interview or something, and then get conflicted about whether or not to stay in the NRMP. I will be applying for all of the AOA peds residencies. I've even thought about applying for several of the internships where my husband and I live so that in the case I have to scramble, we wouldn't have to move twice.

So level with me - Do I even have a chance with ACGME?

We have several DO's at my competitive program. I don't understand your degree of concern. If you passed your COMLEX, passed your med school classes and have a reasonable personality (😉 ) you shouldn't have trouble getting a Pedi residency.

My main concern is the board score. It translates to a 75. I just don't think I look good on paper, and that getting interviews may be a challenge.

I went to school in PA and am a DO and between myself and friends we interviewed at every program in the state without taking the USMLE so don't let that give you any feelings of uncertainty. As far as the rest: your marks in school, your LORs, your CV and personal statement will help to determine who gets in and who doesnt. What is the worst if you apply and don't get an interview? It really don't cost that much to apply, the bigger cost was traveling expenses and ifyour in PA now, you can probably drive to most if not all of the PA programs from where you in a reasonable amount of time.
