NSU-COM Discussion thread 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
submitted sig page and emailed them at admissions. They say it takes 1.5 months to hear if I get an interview. Does that sound about right?

So you're say it will take 1.5 months from the time you submit your secondary before you will hear if you'll get an interview?

I got my interview invitation about two weeks after submitting my secondary but I submitted my secondary in October so I was kinda early in the cycle. It may take longer now since we are later in the cycle.

do you guys think I have much chance at NOVA? I'd love to go there, only an hour from my house 😉 I applied SUPER late and my gpa is horrendous, I know, but do I have any chance??

Thanks!

In addition to having a large undergrad and grad school, NSU has several "health profession" schools which share the admissions office with the medical school. That means that the people in the admissions office and the people that affect your life daily as a medical student are not the same. You didnt say that you set it up through student services before. Thus, I was simply trying to say that you should not let one human's mistake determine your future. Thats all I meant. I was only trying to help.

However, I still stand behind what I said (firmly on my soapbox 😀). You set it up through student services and they dropped the ball. Complaining about something, while cathartic, doesnt improve things. You should let NSU know about their error so that they can find the problem and fix it. With that said, I wish you the very best and hope you get in where you want.

If that's true maybe that explains why my app has been "currently under review" for just over a month. 😎

I wasn't complaining, I was sharing my experience with NSU. I didn't let one person determine my future that's why I scheduled another visit. But like I said I need to whittle my schools down to one in about 10 days (holding 5 acceptances) and NSU made part of my decision a little easier. I don't hold any grudges against NSU and I believe they are a good school just not the right one for me. And I do appreciate youre effort to help!👍

It can range. Right now, it may take that long to get an interview invite since the class is filling up. By December 15th, accepted students would have paid their first deposit. From that point, they can assess...

In the beginning, students may have gotten their interview invite the day after submitting their application.

They give preference to those with a GPA of 3.0 and higher unless you have an unusual circumstance.

Best of luck wherever you decide to go.

I'll have my final grades for this semester around Dec 20th, at which point (unless I majorly F up my finals) I'll have a 3.05 overall. Should I update my AACOMAS and/or send upgraded transcripts to everywhere I applied?

thanks so much

Hey everyone,

I was just accepted to NSU yesterday and I will be attending in the fall. Anyone else?

congratulations on ur acceptance. Can I shadow you in four years lol??😀🙁

Is there a thread for 2012 yet?

Hey everyone,

I was just accepted to NSU yesterday and I will be attending in the fall. Anyone else?

When was your interview? I was 11/30 and am waiting to hear some good news I hope.

Is it just me, or does it seem like NSU is one of the less sought-after DO schools? I'm not saying the school isn't good (not by a long shot!), but I've been watching the School X vs. School Y threads, and the same 5 or 6 schools keep showing up, while comparisons to NSU are more rare. I loved the school when I visited, and I'm really excited about likely attending in the fall, but I'm unsure of why more people aren't as excited. Is there something about the school I missed or should know about? Or is it really just me?

The same 5 or 6 posters keep showing up. SDN is not statistically representative of, well, anything.

True, true. I failed to pay attention to the posters.

Maybe it's because NSU is so great that when people get accepted they just drop all their other schools. 😉 I actually I have seen School X vs. NSU before. I'm not speaking for myself because I've been "currently under review" since October. 😎

when did you interview?

I would update/do both, but I think it's less of need to update your AACOMAS. I would start off with sending a letter to Nova though to let them know you have met the minimum GPA.

Best of luck!

I was the master of the UNE vs NSU thread last year. There may or may not be a Class of 2012 discussion board, but there's a NSUCOM Class of 2012 Facebook Group.

Congrats to those already accepted!

Hey Eugene,

I interviewd with you on Nov 9th (the girl from chicago), and I also had to call to find out that im accepted! Still waiting for the packet though. Do you think you will go there? What other schools are you waiting on?

When was your interview? I was 11/30 and am waiting to hear some good news I hope.

I interviewed 11/19, and it took exactly 2 weeks from that following Wednesday (when the admissions committee meets) for me to get a phone call from Rachel Weiner. I just got my packet today via certfied mail, but there wasn't anything interesting except the congratulatory letter and the thing you have to send back to accept the spot. But... yay!

Where are you from?

Yelena? you had the raspy-ish voice due to a cold right? Black skirt, teal-ish top? If yes, then I remember for sure. Congrats on getting in!! I called Rachel exactly a week after our interview and found out. I'm also still waiting for the packet and it was promised twice already as "next week" so I'm not going too crazy over the timing of it at the moment.

I'm not sure if I will go there yet. It is still my only acceptance at the moment so if nothing else comes through then I will definitely be attending. I am still on the high waitlist at TOURO-NY, but nothing may come of this and if it does it won't be until possibly very late into next summer.

I am also actually interviewing at NYCOM this Tuesday, 12/11/07 so I'm pretty excited about that. Other than that, I don't have anything else on the line. I have heard zilch from PCOM and I sent in my secondary and LOR's over a month ago.

What are your prospectives right now? Will you attend NSU? It's definitely very tempting to just accept and call it a day because the school is off the hook.

Nova is one of the two secondaries I haven't recieved yet, are they slow in getting it out or am I being blacklisted? 🙂

They told us at the interview that they would meet the very next Wednesday (12/5) and the Dean would approve on Friday. So the earliest we would hear back would be today. *fingers crossed* I think perhaps the holiday pushed you guys back a week.

I'm somewhat local, living in Coral Springs now, which is about a half hour north of the school directly up University. That said, I'm originally from Kansas via Michigan, DC, and Boston. (Family and career moves)

You?

I interviewed 12/4 as well, are you going to call today and see if they have a decision or are you going to wait? I thought they said they would not have a decision until this wednesday.

I'm SO confused!!!

I've been trying to get in contact with admissions people at Nova and I either only get their voice mail or the office is closed (at 2:30 pm!!!!). Today I ended up getting a thin "confidential info enclosed" envelope, and thinking that it's a rejection letter I braced myself...

but... it's a letter about webstar and "your NSU e-mail account". Overall just explaining what webstar is, what kind of info is found and also explaining the email address. They write down an email address beside the "NSU email address" but only gave me a pin.

So i log in, and it goes through, I check my admissions status and there's nothing, but there are other options like "add/drop classes" etc...
And to make things even more confusing on the bottom of the letter it says "this notice does not imply admittance to NSU"

Does anyone know what this is about?? Cause I have absolutely no clue!!
Is this just some mean way for you to get your hopes up only to find in the "email account" (which by the way i can't access) that I'm waitlisted or rejected??

Ya I just got that today too man. Its weird.

DId you also interview the 28th?

Has this happened to anyone before? Seems like the kind of thing you would get after paying your deposit or sometime later in the year way after you sent in a deposit. But I haven't even heard back about my interview.

yeah i know, it seems like what you would get even just after the acceptance, but it's so mis-leading!

nope, i interviewed on nov 9th, so it's been about a month and I haven't heard anything yet. If they were to send the acceptance packages shouldn't have it arrived before this email letter? Cause my envelope dates it to be Dec 7th which was only friday!

I interviewed on the 9th too... I called exactly 1 week after on the 16th and found out I was accepted. Rachel said the packets would go out "next week" and I still have not gotten one so don't be too worried. Just call Rachel directly if you can't wait.

I've been trying to follow your advice Eugene (btw I'm the girl from Canada), and when i called today the admissions office was closed!

It's werid cause that girl who interviewed on the 19th got a call and received her package! Yelena when did you call Rachel to ask about your acceptance?

Hey, I haven't heard ANYTHING from NYCOM or PCOM. I will most likely be attending NSU b/c it's my first choice... but I'd like to know what is going on with the rest of my apps!

NYCOM interviews in-state residents before out-of-state residents. I didn't get my interview invite until February.

I too just received a "confidential information" letter about webSTAR. I interviewed on 12/4 and haven't heard anything else from them. I've called for Rachel almost every day for a week now but never get anything but voicemail. Anyone know if this letter means anything or how I can get in touch with Rachel?

Under no circumstances do I want to get your hopes up, but I too got the same letter--2 days before I got a call from Rachel telling me I was accepted.

My acceptance letter was dated 12/7 (I interviewed 11/30), which leads me to believe that some internal computer thing automatically spits out that webstar letter when you are accepted. Again, in the parlance of these letters "this is not to be construed as an offer of admission" so take this info with a hunk of salt.

There is no guarantee. Hang in there.

I finally got my call. I'm in!!! My first acceptance. What a relief! Go sharks ...or something.

if you are interested in my experience as a medical student at NSU-COM. i have a completely different perspective on the whole med school thing now... things i would have done differently. i felt going into school that i would be able to handle some of the rules and regulations that the school makes you agree to and was very positive and excited about starting school. i now realize that i am going to graduate with ill feelings and have absolutely no desire to ever set foot on the campus ever again. i don't even want to attend graduation. again, this is entirely my experience and others might feel differently. if you have any hesitation about applying to this particular program or want someone's complete honest opinion, please feel free to contact me.

If you could elaborate more on your experiences and the problems you have encountered, we would all greatly appreciate it. I love the idea of attending NSU, but I must not be as well informed about "the rules" and regulations of the school. Any further insight would be great.

I definately called at least 2 or 3 weeks ago, and I spoke with Dev... its impossible to reach them!
