Hi everyone,

I thought it might be a good idea if we could start a list of M1's who
would be staying at certain apartment complexes around the area. It would make life a bit easier for those people who are coming from out of the area being assured that they have fellow M1's within the same complex so that they don't get stuck in a bad or unsafe place etc. On top of that those people that live in the same complex could also perhaps study together till late at night. I myself am still looking for a place to live but the rent near school is pretty steep especially if you are looking for a studio or 1 bedroom and not splitting the rent with anyone. It would be a good idea to list what the going rent is in the area...

Also if any current m1/m2 have suggestions let us know 🙂

Hey current M1s,

I have some advice for ya'll. There is a company down here that hunts down cheap and awesome apartments. I just landed a killer deal in a new place (only 6 mos old) and in an awesome setting close to school. Private message me for more info...

Hey All,

I was down there for a crazy 48 hour trip and got an apartment 8.4 miles from school. it is in miramar, called archstone. it is a gated community, we got a 2 bedroom, 1 bath with all the appliances, security system, roman bathtub, pool, spa, tiki bar (i'm pretty excited about that) and a variety of amenities for $1064. they say water will be approx $20 and AC approx $50-60 if you are smart about ceiling fans etc...

they are opening another community that will be attached to archstone in one month. hope this helps,
cindy

Hi,
I'm Bob and am going to be in the Gardens at Nova. Some info for the still searching people.

There are only 2bedroom/2bath apartments here. Base rent is $975 a month, then add $15 for a 2nd floor apartment, and plus $10 for a corner apartment. Security deposit is $600. Apartments are 1165 squarefeet on the ground floor, and 1180 on the 2nd. The neighborhood is nice, and they did a lot of good landscaping on the premises. The complex is within walking distance of the HPD buildings (about a 10 minute walk for me). Each apartment has in-unit washer/dryer hookup, and the complex rents washer/dryer units for $35 a month (for both). I could go on, but then I'd have to charge the complex for advertising time.

My wife and I are converting our 2nd bedroom into a study room, so if people in the complex want to get together to study, we can meet at my place anytime (and of course you don't have to live in our complex to come 🙂 .

Enthusiastically,
Bob

Hey all,
i've set up in a 2BR/2BA (1198 sq ft)apartment at Polo Glen in Plantation, the rent is a bit steep ~1300/month and 1100/month for 1BR(875 sq ft), but it's about 3 miles from school and they allow big pets 🙂 I could not leave my german shepherd. They give a 5% discount for all military (HPSP people included). Here's their amenity list. They have the picnic areas with gas grills, 2 lakes, walking trail, sand volleyball, tennis, basketball, skating area, all new appliances, 9ft ceilings, fitness center with glass enclosed child playroom so you can monitor your kids while you work out (This was a seller for me 😀 there's a tv and VCR in the kids room and toys so they can play or watch a video while you work out). Hope this helps someone.

Hey guys,
I am gonna be living in Palm Trace Landings, and from what I can tell, I am not alone. So, I look forward to meeting you all in July and August. Have fun!!!

C-ya,

I just got back today and I did the weekend tour of NSUCOM for apartments. I ended up finding an apartment off of pine island that is 8 minutes driving to NSU. It was called Los Prados. The apartment was a 2 bed 2 bath apartment with vaulted ceilings, deck, microwave, full size washer and dryer, and also had sweet tennis courts, gym with free weights, and two pools with hot tubs. I was pretty happy and the rent was about 1000 per month. They also had a trash pickup/sewer/unlimited water for 42 a month on top of that. It was a sweet deal I couldn't pass up. I'll be moving in July.

Now, I just need to find a roomate for the second room and I'll be set...

😀

Congratulations on finding a place, Robz! It sounds great!

Thanks...you rock.

Yeah it was whirlwind tour, let me tell you. I have maps upon maps of places to vist and the difference is apartment prices fluxuate depending on where you are.

There were deals on places 5 minutes from NSUCOM and when you talked to the complexes right next to NSU they offered nothing in insentives or discounts because they know you will pay to be right next to the school. Cedar Key and Poiniania Lakes, that were right next to the school where like this. They knew they would have students that wanted to walk to class or didn't have cars that would pay their prices.

I can't remember but I think sunforest gave a small discount and they are really close as well.

In all...it was a fun time.

los prados... i went and toured there also. very nice complex!

Yeah...it was sweet and it was well upkept. I liked the fact the apartment they showed me that would be mine was towards the back in a nice quite area yet I can walk across the yard and get into the pool/excercise room. Bonus points for me. They deal they handed me was too good to pass up and its like 8 minutes to NSU with oh...3 roads to school...pine island, to a cross road to university drive.

Where did you end up bryant?

confusing part is that i will be moving with folks down there who will be entering nsu undergrad...

talking to some realtors right now about condos and such. i dont know. really confused.

Yeah I was confused also....plus where ARE the undergrad classrooms BTW?

I was a bit confused but I made the effort to make sure I had a place. Since you were down you know that every apartment complex was fairly busy and they usually require 30-60 notices on places. So, most rooms will be available now to mid next month. I don't know if I could handle just being on a waiting list "hoping" I get into a spot. There are plenty of places to find and stay I think the key is quality and adaptability to a medical student lifestyle, and you need to find those places before they are gone.

Alrighty guys, sorry it took me so long to answer. I am in the middle of starting my research project but here is the deal...

There is a guy named Dan at this place called Rent Free Realty. What they specialize is finding you a place that fits your need. I went through them and got a killer, I mean killer deal. Very efficient too. The process is as follows...

1. Step into his office and have a chat of what you want and like in ap lace to live
2. He goes out and finds the top 10 apartments for you in your price range
3. You meet with him again or talk to him on the phone and will tell you the best options with the best deals. (KILLER DEALS...the man has the hookups)
4. Go on a tour and see the apartments
5. Wha bam!! you find your apartment....

It's free..you don't pay him anything and like I said ...he knows the killer specials and can act fast on them. Private message me if you would like his phone number.

I got a pretty sweet deal too but that could help some people.

I'm doing the finances now on my monthly living expenses....it kinda sucks knowing I am living totally off loans.
