Hey all!

Wandering if anyone could help me with finding match list or placement info for Nova. I?m still trying to decide between CCOM and NSU-COM. CCOM has an impressive match list but haven?t found anything for NSU-COM. Any other input would be very helpful since at this point I?m leaning towards Nova. Anyone else choosing Nova over CCOM?

I did and it was mainly due to three things...

one I hate the cold.

two I got a good gut feeling from NSUCOM.

three it was cheaper to go to NSUCOM even out of state than CCOM.

(BTW I was in shorts today and had the windows open while a nice breeze flew in. I also rode into school in a jeep with its top down so I could feel the breeeze and sun on my face....then I spent the next 10+ hours studying....🙂 )

Thanks Robz

So how do you like it thus far? Don't suppose you have any info about match lists or anything like that. I too have a good feeling about NSUCOM and am leaning that way. But I heard some scary stuff about the academics like 80 people failing this one class. (I think its physio). Can you comment on that. Does Nova have a scary attrition rate. I mean I'm all for working really hard once I'm in but 80 people failing makes me think there doing something wrong. Anyway its probably an urban legend, but have you heard anything from 2nd years about the attrition rate? sorry about all the questions but I'm hoping to make my decision soon.

oh yeah, physio does suck. prof's lecture notes are written in french or some derivative of. just fyi.

and no, im not failing, YET.

Here's the quick and dirty....

First off I don't hold much in the realm of matchlists. I feel that if your really really interested in a certain residency then you make the effort to go for it. I am interested in EM and there is plenty of EM physicians that came out of NSU. I don't agree with fin-nor that its weak either. There is a LARGE amount of nsu students that do traditional AOA years and osteopathic residencies and most people associate "strong" match lists with more traditional allopathic residencies. (which is were I am going to go)

As for physio...its a hard ass class. No joke. The material is hard to understand conceptually sometimes. We are handed notes and I won't say they are in french but more along the lines of a MASSIVE amount of material to know and know well. Yes...there was a large amount of people the failed the first physio test but that was for multiple reasons. Underestimated exam, not used to physio, unsure of question style...yadda yadda. The class is not over and I am betting (and know) there will be a curve for the class. They will not fail a large amount. Its a lose lose situation to do that. I would say that attrition rates as you asked are around 10% for the class. This includes those that fail, that take a personal leave, and those that quit.

oh just as an aside when you get into school its a lot tougher than you think. Most of us are A students but when we have so much stuff to learn and be tested on pretty hard core you start to see the layers of students. Its interesting to see.

Make your decision on what you feel is right for you. I was accepted to 7 schools (MD/DO) and I picked NSU for reasons that I set out. I say almost everyday that its blue sky's and nice temperatures out that I am happy I came here. Yes there are things that are eh....but overall I know I am cool. Plus the clinical exposure from the beginning is pretty damn cool too!
