Hey guys,

I have been lucky enough to be accepted to NSUCOM and I have recently received an interview invitation from Touro NY. As a Canadian student applying to US DO schools, I was wondering if I could get some advice on whether I should go to the interview at NY or just stick with NSU.

I know NSU is much more established but what are the general thoughts towards TOURO NY?

Thanks for all your advice!

Most people will tell you NSU on here. I'm sure you can't go wrong with Touro NY. Could you imagine yourself livign in NYC? Academic wise- Touro will probably give you what you need but I'm sure NSU is better academically

I've been a little more impressed with NSU than I have Touro NY. Nova being a large scale university has a lot more resources to it than TouroCOM at NY. I don't think Touro is a bad school at all.

If you are interested in research (or just want to have the resources there if you do get interested) then at this point in time, Nova has the upper hand (faculty are actually on NIH active grants as supposed to the lip service Touro NY gives on their website about having great researchers. Sorry, NIH funding is what this stuff is based off of, that's how it be). You can use the NIH Reporter tool to verify.

Clinical rotations at Nova seem a bit better here than Touro NY as well and that can be a world of difference.

with the Canadian dollar being where it is, go to the school with the cheapest cost of attendance. If money is not an issue for you, and you're paying out of pocket, then NSU I think would be better for reasons already mentioned above.

NSU for the academics/rotations but TouroNY would be a hard turn down for me. I love NYC. I say go to the interview and see what's up. You deserve to have options after the hard work you have put in. Mind sharing your stats for the acceptance and interview invite?

Ya I was thinking I should just go down and see how it is. The only thing that concerned me was the school being established only in 2006. Um my stats were 3.35 cGPA and 32 MCAT with ton of different kinds of volunteer activities.

Ya the Canadian dollar is brutal right now. Um I looked at the tuitions, they are fairly the same price. I think NSU tuition is 4K more but prob cost of living is less. I would imagine living in NY would be pretty dam expensive.

yeah. compare cost of attendance. housing, insurance, tuition, req books, tech etc.

I interviewed at both and ultimately chose NSU . The location and the cost of living were big factors. Any school is going to get you what you need, you gotta go where you fit in and will be happiest. I happen to be happiest without snow 🙂
