Hello, I apologize if this is a trivial question but I've had conflicting answers between people on this board and MCAT preparation books. How many passages are usually found in each section of the MCAT? This will help me tremendously when determining my timing technique when writing an exam. Thank you!! 🙂

The format of the current MCAT consists of 7 Physical Science passages (52 questions, 70 minutes), 7 Verbal Reasoning passages (40 questions, 60 minutes), 2 Writing Section prompts (60 minutes) and 7 Biological Science passages (52 questions, 70 minutes). Each passage will have at most 7 questions associated with it.

25% of the science sections consists of independent/stand-alone questions i.e. a total of 13 questions for either science section will not be associated with any passage.

I'm basing this observation off of the AAMC practice tests.

has anyone that has taken the mcat recently seen more than 7 passages on any section? Because my current timing is based on a 7 passage system, and 8 passages would screw everything up.
