I know this is a general question that really depends on a lot of things (i.e. state of residency, grades, DAT, etc)--which btw my stats are just average), but I am still interested in everyone's overall thoughts.

How many dental schools should one apply to? I applied to 9 last year and I am re-applying this year and I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars if I don't have to!

What is your opinion? 😕

Did you apply late last year? Because on average, one applicant applies to about 10 schools to gain at least one acceptance.

I believe the main objective is to research on various schools on their entrance statistics, compare them with yours, apply to some that have higher and some with lower statistics then what you have achieved. APPLY EARLY and I think 8-10 schools will be enough for you to gain acceptance.

Best of luck this year!

Yes, Musketeer, I did apply late last year and that definitely hurt me...especially since my stats were only average.

Case is one of the schools I am considering for this year...why did you chose Case over other schools?

I like the environment at Case - situated around a lagoon with various historical, theatrical, serene sites within Case. About the dental school itself - I saw recently the dental program has been undergoing continous changes (change in degree title and school name, relatively new simulation lab and DentSims, proposed changes to improve their clinics, etc)...all to prepare the dental students to adapt to dentistry in the 21st century. In 3 and 4th year, they also guarantee that all dental students will have their own operatory so that you don't have to share. The people are friendly there and also it is just a short drive by home to Toronto (which I like) 😀 .

If you need more opinions from fellow Case students you can direct them in the Case Western thread.

Hey guys,

Does it matter to other dental schools how many schools you applied to? and also, does each school you apply to know what other schools you applied to?

I think they do because on your confirmation sheet you get in the mail has all the schools, which is an exact copy of what all the schools get. I don't think it matters to adcoms how many you apply to.
