Hi there,

I was just wondering if schools usually accept more students than their actual class size or the number that end up enrolling. And if they do, why is that? I was looking at statistics on opted, and most schools accept like WAY more than the amount that enroll.

most people apply to more than one school.

One person could get 16 acceptance letters but can only enroll in one school, so you end up with having a much higher acceptance vs enrollment numbers.

well what happens if more people decide to enroll than available seats?

each school keeps in mind how many offers they have out so to prevent that very situation. if they have 120 seats, and 60 ppl have already committed to going to that school, then they only have 60 more seats to offer. They will accept people until the final seat is filled and then waitlist anyone else they think would be a good student in case one of those committed changes his/her mind.

This is why its important to apply early, there are more spots available earlier in the season (120 on august 1st) than in February or March when there may be 10 left.
