Nurse Jackie

Saw a commercial - looks dumb. Nurses don't have power, and they shouldn't have power.

agreed, she makes nurses seem all bad ass. interesting show for sure though.

saw an ad and thought it looked dumb, will not watch

I made a ****ing post about this show 2 yrs ago use teh srch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like it. First two posters take it way too seriously...it's primarily a character study--one interesting individual who clearly oversteps her bounds (hence the constant clashing with that doctor), has some deep flaws, authority issues, etc.--not meant to be the most accurate and unbiased portrayal of the medical field. Not to mention it's a comedy.

I'm an Edie Falco fan (left over from the days of The Sopranos), and she does a pretty damn good job.

👍

agree with the above about Edie Falco but i don't like the show

I watched the first episode a while ago, and wasn't interested enough to continue. I don't know though, maybe it's gotten better since then 😕

Haven't seen Nurse Jackie. I always hoped that HBO would start up a show about medicine. A grittier, more Wire-esque version of ER seems possible from them.

After reading this thread I decided to take time out of my busy schedule and watch 2 episodes of this show and I have to say that it's pretty much a female House, except less cool. Also, she's not very good looking and I'm kinda surprised at the negative portrayal of docs in that show.

P.S. in episode 3 when Jackie's doc friend is put on the stethoscope to hear the patient's heart, she put it backwards ... typical actors, idiots.

Really, your surprised? I'm surprised how gentle their negative portrayal is.

Yikes, it's just a TV show, guys.

really? what shows have you been watching?

Probably not many that center around the point of view of a nurse.

You'd expect a show that empowers nurses to portray doctors as idiotic authoritarians who are in a higher position for no good reason. How else can you empower those who don't deserve empowerment?

On a related note, anyone else here miss The Shield? Man, that was a great show...

i fell asleep watching the same episode of nurse jackie on 2 separate flights...it's almost as boring as hawthoRNe

To sum up Nurse Jackie:

Train wreck of a woman who happens to be a nurse and there are some brief moments in the show in which she is actually doing nurse stuff- sort of.

The peripheral characters are all goofy, fairly lovable (except for the token administrator) train wrecks on a much smaller scale.

If you like watching train wrecks, this show is for you. That is about all.

From watching that show alone, one would be led to believe that Doctors don't do anything at all. Actually the show would lead you to believe that the nurses give all the orders to "order" the doctors to order the orders lol. I've watched the first 7 episodes just now, and I think I've seen a doctor write an order ONCE. Also, there was an episode where the main character helped her friend die (euthanasia) while all the nurse and techs watched happily.

It's probably been said already, but the show is like HOUSE R.N.

EDIT: Also doctors stereotypes included thus far:

1. Coop - Frat boy, mcDreamy type, can't keep it in his pants
2. RichDoc - Rich doc that throws away $100 dollar clothing to bums or into the trash. Always drinking wine and picking up tabs etc...
3. DrugDealerPharmacist - Pays Nurse Jackie with Vicodin in exchange for Sex
I'll think of somemore hold on.

I couldn't agree more!

The show is fun to watch, because the personalities are interesting, but everything else is shocking. Who do they think they're fooling?

That really does sound like the inverse of House (which I like), where you see almost zero nurses, techs or aides. (And everyone who isn't a doctor is a nurse, no matter what job they are doing... all 3 times you ever see someone else)
