So I grew up and went to undergrad in New York. I'm currently a resident of NY and a dependent of my parents (both of my parents also live and work in NY). I will continue to be a dependent of my parents over the next few years as well. However, I will be living and working in Washington, DC soon. I will be living there for the duration of 10 months starting in August. I will be applying to D.O. schools in the NEXT cycle (sending D.O. apps in the summer of 2013). Since I will be living and working in DC for a period of 10 months, I have to pay DC resident taxes. Will this mean that I am no longer eligible to claim NY residency for my AACOMAS apps? The reason that I ask is because I know that NYCOM gives preference to NY state residents. Lastly, what does my move to D.C. mean for my upcoming MD school apps? Will SUNY schools no longer consider me a NY state resident? Thanks to everyone who replies in advance.

Thanks, cliquesh.

So if I change my NY car license to a DC license, would that revoke my NY residency? And am I required to register to vote in DC if I switch my license over?

Most schools clasify residency, for financial aid purposes, differently. Some require you live in the state for a year. Anyways, you're going to find better answers on google than on sdn...took the liberty of googling this for you

There's information on each states website as well.
