Judging by last year, if its gonna happen, this week seems to be it.

has anyone called this week to see if there has been movement?

I contacted the admission office yesterday and asked if any movement of the waitlist and she said no. I then asked if the class for 2012, this fall was full and she replied it was. The person on the phone was a bit rude and said to me good luck next time.

It looks like everyone in the admissions committee is saying apply again next year.

I still find it hard to believe the list has not moved a few students, the individual u spoke to was prob the secr, they are a little nasty, not as bad as TOURO com admissions, lets see what happens in the next week or so

I also find it odd that there are only 10 or so people on the waitlist. It's a possibility that there are more out there and we just don't know it. There may or may not have been movement. How would anyone know for sure. As the game is played, who knows maybe at orientation someone might back out and there will be a seat available. I also find it strange that at least one person withdrew and we have not heard of the person they took from the wait list. What can we do? Absolutely Nothing!

You have to keep in mind that most people are probably not posting on SDN, including whoever got that spot and the other people on the waitlist. There are more than 10 of you.

I dont think, anyone is claiming their has been no movement due to what they see on SDN. They are obviously more people on the waitlist, who are not on SDN. I Think most people stating that the waitlist hasn't moved yet, get that from their conversations with NYCOM admissions, including the director. I personally have been in contact with her, and she has been very helpful, and I don't believe that she is lying to me about the lack of movement.

We can still get in, and I hope we all do.

But I advise everyone to start thinking about alternate scenarios now. If people are going to reapply, make sure you are starting to redo your personal statement, filling out aacomas, try to see if anyone else can write you a rec, etc. We all have been waitlisted for a reason, and reapplying will give us the advantage of learning from our mistakes. If applying late was the issue, I would definately make sure that is not the case again and apply ASAP. If you got into a another school, and will be attending It time to look for apt's send your transcripts, etc.

It pains me as much as anyone to say this, but you cant count on getting into NYCOM anymore.

Good luck to everyone

Well we know the wait list isn't guaranteed, but no need to shatter all hope just yet 😎.

I see people here and there dropping out, so can't call it quits right now. In addition, everyone should have had alternate plans even before getting into this waitlist mess, but no need to close up shop.

To all who share my restlessness, tiredness, and indignation with this process I wish the best!

haha, sorry if it came off that way. I was just saying its time to think about alternate plans. On the bright side i just saw the class of 2012 nycom thread and someone just withdrew. Lets see if this does anything.

Here's hoping you get your #1 choice and the NYCOM wannabes get your a chance to go!

wow its looks like a lot people are withdrawing from NYCOM in the class 2012 thread... It looks like another person withdrew today 😀.

I am praying the wait list starts to move rapidity and all of us come off.🙂

We can only hope that if there is movement, someone would post it. It would be nice to finally know what we are doing with our lives. :meanie:

How do you know a number of people are dropping out of NYCOM's class of 2012? I didn't see anything on the NYCOM discussion thread...

There are two people who are looking to sub lease there room, on the nycom thread since they got into other schools. Also a poster above said he knows a couple people who just withdrawn. Lets hope this opens up some seats

EDIT: You are looking at the NYCOM thread in pre-osteo. I have been lurking in the osteopathic class thread forum where there is thread that states NYCOM class of 2012.

Also I think we can count on some people dropping out tomorrow seeing that everything (financially speaking) is due by August 1st. If it is not in, the seat and deposit is lost....so my one piece of non-altruistic advice is to pray to whomever that you pray to that some seats upon up for all of us :luck:.

Thats good to know that tomorrow is a big day

If multiple of us SDN'ers get off the waitlist we should all grab a beer or something before first day of class.

Now only if we could get in 😛

I already got my apt and everything for touro, I still would love to be in a position to sublease it and i am willing to just eat the money if it came down to it for NYCOM. I really hope they lets us know quick, so i can start changing my arrangements if i did happen to get in.

He is correct about some students not going to NYCOM and another pulled off the WL, was almost banned for standing up to some racist republicans

i think you mean someone got pull off the WL at another school and withdrew from NYCOM, not NYCOM pulled someone off the WL

Hi abby. That's great news for us wait listers! Do you personally know these people who are withdrawing from NYCOM, i.e. is it for sure? And good luck to you...I hope you get into PCOM!

When was the last time anyone talked to Taryn Croot to find out if there was any movement off the list? I don't want to over-do it, so I'm wondering if anyone has called her or e-mailed her very recently?

I called the office today and they said there has been no movement. I spoke to one of the nicer secretaries and tried to pry some information out of her but alas, it was to no avail. I wish they would just tell us how many people need to withdraw until they start moving the waitlist. I did, however, find out something i didn't previously know. It seems that the waitlist won't begin moving until the admissions committee meets and decides to start moving it. I guess its possible that they just haven't met in a while and perhaps with orientation ever-approaching, they will get together and see if they want to fill up some of those withdrawn positions. Anyone else have any information?

yea adcom meets, and usually a few people are notified they are off. My guess would be, due to the few withdrawals recently there is a shot they might meet this week and hopefully let a few off us off at the end off the week and let us have the weekend to decide and make arrangements. But that just speculation.

I wished i knew how much overfilled they were, but you cant know everything 🙁

Director of admissions is on vacation, they will probably meet anytime after today, cuz she'll be back tomorrow. so good luck

I've seen people saying either on this thread or different ones that the class is actually overfilled. So does that mean they're just not going to take anyone off the waitlist even if people have dropped out?

Honestly, no one knows if the class is over filled or not unless you work for admissions. Everything else is just speculation. The class being overfilled is a possibility, since people have withdrew (according to sdn) and no movement and I know some schools this year it has happened.

There is nothing we can do but wait. Hopefully with the director of admissions coming back, we could hear some good news. We have little less than 2 weeks to go.

...agreed. Also it would be very disappointing to wait all this time, to only learn that the waitlist never moved. But if this were the case, wouldn't they have the decency to just say forget about this year and apply next? (or something more concrete).

Anyways tomorrow brings another day, and I'm hoping for the best for us all.

Decency? surely you jest. i wouldnt be at all surprised if some in the admissions office are getting their jollies with the knowledge that we sit here in anxiety waiting for them to call.

That being said, does anyone have any news? Any new withdrawals?

ellinas?

any new information?

hi everyone! i'm also waitlisted at NYCOM and i know how u guys must be feeling. i emailed the director of admissions but she hasn't replied back and i called the admissions office today. the lady was pretty rude when i asked her if the class was full. so does anyone else have any more information on the waitlist?

i've also been accepted at another school and i feel that this wait kinda sucks because i can't prepare myself for either school now.

...i called the admissions office today. the lady was pretty rude when i asked her if the class was full...

Yeah, generally they are pretty rude to me too, with the exception of one person who sounds much younger than the person i regularly get on the phone. Perhaps they think that being a secretary in the office of admissions is such a great lifetime achievement that it affords them the right to be rude to others. or perhaps they realize just what they are and can't stand that fact that most of the people who call their office every day will likely have the opportunity to earn 10x more than they do. It could be either one.
Anyone think I'm bitter about the whole waitlist thing?

Uhh yea... just a bit bitter. I guess it could be all that stuff you said or it could just be that getting 50 phonecalls a day from 50 neurotic pre-meds asking the same exact question, to which they are not allowed to give a direct answer to, can get a little bit irritating.

I've called NYCOM many times in the past several months regarding other questions I've had and I've spoken to lots of people and nobody has ever been rude to me, not in person, not on the phone. I've found everyone to be pleasant and helpful.

It could just be all related to the question you're asking and have nothing to do with the staff themselves...

Anyone think I'm a NYCOM fanboy?

hey, dont get me wrong; im a nycom fan as well. i just dont like when people are rude to me when all im asking them to do is their job. i mean, they are supposed to answer the phones and they know that this time of year there will be extra calls about the waitlist. all im asking is that they be a little nicer when they crush all my hopes and dreams.

I feel your pain my friend. You definitely bring up a good point that doing your job is doing your job and that regardless of how annoying it may get, they should still try to be courteous.

I mean no harm as well. I wish you the best of luck and don't get your dreams all crushed just yet. It aint over till the fat lady sings. People get pulled off waitlists a few days into the semester too. Good luck!

i'm a NYCOM fan myself and i've been calling alot to find out about the waitlist. Usually the ladies are nice but yesterday the lady sort of laughed. I think it just made me upset because i'm just losing patience now. I think the people at NYCOM need to realize how important this is to us and give us a clear answer. My orientation starts on Monday and I was hoping that I would be in a better position this week so that I know if I have to go to orientation or not.

oh well..goodluck to all of you! i hope we all make it 🙂

wow that sure is tough man, if I were you, I would go to the orientation and start my medical student career and forget about any waitlists I may have.

Anyway good luck with everything to all of you, stay strong man.

and yes I am going to Touro NY...are you going there too?

I am staring at my phone every five seconds, and still no word. It becoming extremely likely that i will see you on monday at Touro...🙁

I dont know how i could back out orientation at Touro, if i was called next week by NYCOM, but i would try

i feel exactly the same way as you. i've been wondering the same thing and thats exactly why i was really hoping i would hear from NYCOM this week so that i don't have to go to orientation and then back out. But i guess if it comes to that then there's nothing we can do expect pick the one that will be better for us in the long run although it would be a very awkward situation.

I think that the fat lady has sung. It was ashame that the waitlist didn't move at all this year before the start of classes....and all this waiting for nothing 😡 (thanos - you were definitely right). I hope that next year applicants have better luck! Also to all those still waiting: feel free to join me at the bar, i'll be there all this week.
